The First Rainbow Coalition charts the history and enduring legacy of a groundbreaking multi-ethnic coalition that rocked Chicago in the 1960s.
In 1969, the Chicago Black Panther Party began to form a multi-ethnic coalition with the Young Lords Organization and the Young Patriots. Banding together in one of the most segregated cities in post-war America, the Rainbow Coalition changed the face of 1960s Chicago politics and created an organizing model for future activists and politicians.

Grand Ole Opry Members, Five-time Grammy® award winners individually, three-time Grammy® award nominees collectively, four-time DOVE Award winners, and winners of 35 IBMA Awards altogether (including 3-time IBMA Entertainer of the Year Award winners and 3-Time Vocal Group of the Year Award winners), Jamie Dailey and Darrin Vincent, backed by one of the best bands on tourtoday, are some of the most reputable and elite entertainers in American music; bluegrass, traditional country and gospel music.
From the very beginning of their partnership in late 2007, Jamie Dailey and Darrin Vincent quickly established themselves as fresh voices in their genre. Young but seasoned veterans of bluegrass, traditional country, and gospel groups themselves, Dailey and Vincent have built on the experience and knowledge gained from working with Doyle Lawson (Dailey) and John Hartford and Ricky Skaggs (Vincent) to forge their own distinct career path. The concoction of their fantastically powerful vocal blends, 4 award-winning studio albums, and heavy touring schedules has gained them well-deserved attention from bluegrass, country, and gospel critics and fans alike. Equally at home with material from any of the aforementioned genres, Jamie and Darrin continue to expand on the possibilities of what kinds of music can become "Dailey & Vincent" music.
While Dailey and Vincent continue to draw on the lessons they learned over the years about respect for musical integrity and the importance of tradition, they have certainly planted their own flag deeply and permanently into the soil of American music.

JP Parsons is a Singer/songwriter from Bristol, VA. Locals know him as Bristol's Troubadour. JP's albums 'Appalachian Travels' and 'Until This Day is Done' move listeners to turn up the volume and memorize the words. He is a Song Writer, and he crafts new songs all the time. He writes them on napkins, receipts, whatever is near... when the words arrive, sometimes from an unknown muse; quickly...sometimes they are labored over throughout a notebook; slowly. He does not write hooks and riddles, he links words together to tell stories. He writes with purpose. Listen with intent and enjoy.

Students have the opportunity to take private lessons in voice, piano and guitar. There will be group lessons for ages 6 and older in piano, guitar and ukulele. Adult classes are available in piano and guitar. Glee Club is offered for elementary through high school students who love to sing pop, Disney and musical theater. Kiddy Keys, music exploration for ages 3-5, is offered as a fun way for the youngest musicians to learn and explore music.
Enrollment information and lesson descriptions can be found at the Bristol Academy of Music website www.bristolacademyofmusic.com. Lessons begin Jan. 6.
“I am thrilled to provide Bristol a community for musicians of all ages to learn, be inspired, and perform together. The benefits of music education for our youngest musicians up to our oldest are significantly profound. Music changes lives,” Helton says.

The Bristol Train Station Board, YWCA NETN and SWVA and APEC will host a community observance of the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The commemoration event will be held on the national King holiday. Our theme, “The Legacy Lives” reminds us that the work Dr. King began is still important and unfinished. The celebration will bring greater awareness to Dr. King’s work and mission, promote unity and diverse participation within our community, educate, encourage and inspire deeper community dialogue, and help us to learn from the past.
