In celebration of International Games Week, the Bristol Public Library will be hosting a Family Game Night on Wednesday, November 6 starting at 4:30 pm.
All ages are welcome to this free event! Come spend an evening with friends and family playing a variety of games we will have available. Refreshments will be provided!

Karla Bonoff emerged as a singer songwriter from the Monday night hootenanny scene at the Troubadour nightclub in Los Angeles. She wrote classic songs for artists such as Linda Ronstadt, Wynonna Judd and Bonnie Raitt, and contributed to films like Footloose. Many of Bonoff’s ballads are classics, including “All My Life,” “Someone to Lay Down Beside Me,” “Tell Me Why,” and “Lose Again.” Listening to Karla sing is like having an intimate conversation about secrets of the heart — you don’t want to miss a word!
Nina Gerber is the LeBron James of guitar players – everyone who plays with her gets better when she plays. She’s added her talents to the work of a wealth of wonderful artists, including Karla Bonoff, Peter Rowan, Nanci Griffith, Lucy Kaplansky, and Kate Wolf, with whom Nina started her musical career. Her album Good Music with Good People features outstanding performances with Jackson Browne, Eliza Gilkyson, and Bruce Cockburn, among others, all taken from the Kate Wolf Festival.

For well over 50 years the veterans of Bristol have honored their fallen comrades with a parade and memorial service in downtown Bristol. Whether through years of recognition or obscurity the parade has reminded the region of the sacrifice of our own citizens in wars and military engagements since the beginning of our nation. The annual event will once again be held in the streets of downtown Bristol on Saturday November 9th.
Any veteran is welcome to participate in the parade. Line-up begins on Morrison Blvd at 9:00 AM, with the parade beginning at 10:00 AM using the traditional parade route. Following the parade, approximately at 11:00 AM, citizens will gather for the traditional memorial service at the Bristol War Memorial at Cumberland Square Park.
Annual Veteran's Day service at Victory Baptist Church, November 10th at 11:00 AM. Catered lunch immediately after service for Veterans and one guest.

Black in Appalachia in partnership with the YWCA Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia and Bristol Public Library invite you and your family to share documents, photos, films, and recollections of Bristol & Sullivan County's African-American community.
We will also be recording oral histories, so come prepared with your family's story!
Any and all materials are welcome. Refreshments will be provided.
Physical documents and photos will be digitized and returned to you the same day with your own digital copy of your items.

YWCA CARES, an advocacy program of YWCA NETN and SWVA for victims of crimes ages 17-24 in Sullivan County, is holdingHolistic Self-Care Day, a free event for the community, at the YWCA in Bristol on November 9, 2019 from 11:00 to 5:00.
This free event will feature experts in Aromatherapy, Reiki and Crystal Work, Yoga, Creative Writing, Self-Defense, Mindfulness, Art, a Therapeutic Equestrian Center, Drama Classes, and Meditation Circles. Participants will visit booths to learn about Self-Care offerings, enjoy eating at local food trucks, attend free self-care classes running throughout the day, receive giveaways, and have the opportunity to participate in a silent auction.

Opening on Tuesday, November 12, the Bristol Public Library will be featuring beautiful creative works by members of the local artisans group Art of the Highlands. We are excited to feature the works of three members of this group: Joyce Kistner, Kitty Williams, and Joyce Samuels. Thanks to their generosity, the library is able to present a variety of works in the Virgie R. Fleenor Gallery through December!
In this exhibit, each artist will use a variety of subject themes and techniques. The award-winning artists from Art of the Highlands have exhibited at the Bristol Chamber of Commerce, William King Museum, The Arts Depot, Kingsport Art Guild, Bristol Art Guild, and the Virginia Highlands Festival. This exhibit will include various media such as watercolor, acrylic and alcohol ink, and water paste.
The library is open Monday- Thursday 9 a.m.-8 p.m., Friday- Saturday 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sundays 2 p.m.-5 p.m. For questions about the Art Gallery or any other library programs, call 276.645.8790.
