“We are always excited when it’s time for Border Bash.It is an opportunity to bring great music to our downtown and bring the community together during the summer months.Believe in Bristol is proud to have brought this event to the community for twenty years,” stated Maggie Bishop, Executive Director, Believe in Bristol.
July 4, 2019 — Cumberland Square Park
The Cleverlys!
The Cleverlys are a one-of-a-kind comedy/music blend coming from the remote part of the Ozark Mountains, near Cane Spur, Arkansas.
Digger Cleverly, along with his nephews Ricky Lloyd, Sock, DVD and Cub, make up The Cleverlys. They have traveled the globe, if the globe only consisted of the United States, performing at music venues and some of the nation’s largest festivals like Stagecoach, Telluride, CMA Music Fest, and even the Grand Ole Opry.
The New York Times wrote, “If Earl Scruggs, Dolly Parton, and Spinal Tap spawned a litter of puppies, it would be the Cleverlys.”
Don’t be fooled by this faux-family band – they are all accomplished musicians putting their unique bluegrass spin on cover songs from any genre. The Cleverlys’ set list includes genius arrangements of tunes like Psy’s “Gangnam Style,” a medley of Blackstreet’s “No Diggity,” and Flo Rida’s “Low” that recently went viral on Facebook, with over 11 million views from a local TV appearance.
Border Bash is hosted by Believe in Bristol and the Cities of Bristol. Border Bash would not be possible without our community sponsors. Our sponsors in 2019 include Bank of Tennessee, Birthplace of Country Music, Blackbird Bakery, Bristol Herald Courier, Camellia Digital, Cascade Draft House, Coca-Cola, Dr. & Mrs. Ben Cowan, Express AV Productions, Dr. & Mrs. John Fincher, Framed, Jeff & Terri Gregory, Knoxville TVA Employee Credit Union, Lost State Distilling, Merrill-Lynch, Anna Morgan, Dale & Joneen Sargent, Tom & Barbara Smith, The Bristol Hotel, John & Ann Tickle, Tri-City Tent & Event, Turtleson, and Dr. & Mrs. Zaidi.

A Kansas native, Chuck has been at the forefront of Americana music for the better part of 25 years. Perhaps best known for co-founding the famed ‘90s alternative country quintet, BR5-49, who’s 7 albums garnered a CMA Award for Best International Touring Act and three Grammy nominations, helped build an indelible bridge between authentic American Roots music and millions of fans worldwide.
About Kelsey Rae
Southwest Virginia native singer-songwriter Kelsey Rae Copeland calls Nashville home these days, and she’s been heard around Music City during her residency at The Nashville Palace, a spot known for featuring deep cuts of traditional country, on Broadway at Layla’s and Robert’s Western World, and on Honky Tonk Tuesday Nights at American Legion Post 82, one of the latest venues featuring traditional country music.
Her love of the mountains, Southwest Virginia, and the influences of the Carter family and Dr. Ralph Stanley stay dear and close and are heard in FORTUNE TELLER, her album of original songs that showcases a distinct voice and lyrics that speak to those inspirations and love for the sounds of the music of Patsy Cline, Connie Smith, Anita Carter and Kitty Wells. Included on the album is “Social Media,” her tribute to Dolly Parton.
