We are so excited to announce our latest event at Mercantile on State.

We are offering a 4 week kid friendly sign language class to help promote communication, acceptance and encourage growth for our community.

We will host the class on Saturday evenings at 6pm starting March, 2nd.

The class will meet for one hour a week but there will also be a Facebook group where our instructor will provide materials and resources to help you practice between classes.

We will also include a delicious treat from That Cookie Dough each session.

AAME Speaker Series: The Play's the Thing

Catherine Bush is Playwright-in-Residence at Barter Theatre. Catherine’s plays at the Barter include: The Other Side of the Mountain, The Quiltmaker, Comin’ Up A Storm, Wooden Snowflakes, Tradin’ Paint, Where Trouble Sleeps, The Road to Appomattox, Walking Across Egypt, I’ll Never Be Hungry Again (book & lyrics), The Controversial Rescue of Fatty the Pig, The Three Musketeers, Winter Wheat, Ghost, Ghost, Come Out Tonight, and Great Expectations. She has also written over twenty-five plays for the Barter Players, whose work serves the younger members of Barter’s audience. Catherine will talk about her journey to playwriting, the difference between adapting and creating, and what it means to serve an audience with her work. Questions are encouraged!

Creative & Crafty: Ready to Bloom Canvas Class

It’s almost time for spring, which means the library is getting into the spirit with a brand new canvas class! Join the Bristol Public Library on Tuesday, March 5, at 5:30 p.m. for Creative & Crafty: Ready to Bloom Canvas Class. During this class, registered participants will have the opportunity to create a spring-themed canvas—either a peaceful Creekside view, a colorful abstract tree, or a blossoming welcome sign.

Evelyn Pursley-Kopitzke's Magic Butterfly

The Paramount Chamber Players joins forces with Highlands Ballet Company to present the world premiere of Evelyn Pursley-Kopitzke’s Magic Butterfly, a brand-new ballet, set in Africa. The ballet tells the story of a child who has been rewarded with an adventurous magical journey through Africa because she decided not to collect (kill) butterflies anymore. The music was expanded from African Vignettes, two 15-minute tone poems also by Pursley-Kopitzke, to an approximately 80-minute work for mixed chamber ensemble. Magic Butterfly is a world premiere of a work written, prepared and performed by local community talent.

Beginning Genealogy

We’re excited to announce that we are offering Beginning Genealogy on Wednesday, March 6 at 2:00 p.m. in the Jones Creativity Center.

Designed to help new and experienced genealogists, Beginning Genealogy is an introductory class on both online research and book resources. Participants will be able to learn more about using Ancestry and Heritage Quest, library resources, and creating family trees. Kristin will be teaching this free educational program and offering tips on how to best navigate genealogy online, as well as printed sources.

Space is limited, so pre-registration is strongly encouraged. Library computers will be available for patrons in the JCC, but participants may also bring their own laptops or electronic devices.
