Rock & Roll: Geology of Southern Appalachia

Join Bristol Public Library for a special presentation on the geology of Southern Appalachia presented by Jeremy Stout, manager of the Steele Creek Park Nature Center. Jeremy will delve into geology and discuss common — and not so common — rocks found in the region, as well as answer questions about curious rock formations and rocks found at Steele Creek Park.

Sounds of Summer: Sons of Sailors

The Sounds of Summer Concert Series, formerly the Full Moon Jam, will start June 5th and run through September 27th. Concerts will be held on Tuesdays & Thursdays from7-9pmfrom June -Augustat the Downtown Center (Country Music Mural), 810 State Street. Concerts will be held on Thursdays during the month of September.

Bring a lawn chair or come early to grab one of the 350 chairs provided on-site. Refreshments are sold in the concessions area for a nominal fee. Clean, well-stocked restrooms also available.

Moving deftly between complex dexterity and heart-tugging familiarity, Rose achieves a sound that pushes gently alongside the bright vocal experimentalism of Joni Mitchell and Joanna Newsom while maintaining the brassy attitude and simple refrains that run straight through American roots music from mountain ballads to rock n roll.

The Diamonds

From East Tennessee, The Diamonds play a diverse mix of music, specializing in jazz standards. The group performs at various venues and events throughout the region, including weddings, parties, and restaurants. They have also volunteered at many nursing homes, assisted living homes, and charitable organizations in the area.

Bristol, TN Parks and Rec is excited to announce a unique opportunity for families to enjoy the magic of the silver screen under the night sky at Anderson Park this summer. Friday Night Movie Night in the Park will present a new family friendly feature film each month from July through September.

The series kicks off with Hotel Transylvania on Friday, July 13th. Pre-show activities such as face painting, bubble tables, sidewalk chalk, bean bag toss, and more will begin at 7:00PM. The movie screening will begin once the sun goes down at about 9:00PM. Everyone’s favorite movie concessions like popcorn, candy, and drinks will be available for purchase, but there is absolutely no cost to enjoy the movie or other activities.

Victor Lawson and Boogie Chillen are among the talented bands in the burgeoning blues scene in the Tri-Cities. Established about nine years ago and led by Lawson, the tight three-man band take their name from the song, “Boogie Chillen,’” which was made famous by late Delta blues icon, John Lee Hooker.

Bristol Hotel Job Fair

With work progressing and its name now prominently displayed along the downtown skyline, the Bristol Hotel is set to begin hiring.

Plans include hiring about 75 full- and part-time positions, including managers, bartenders, wait staff, banquet staff, guest service agents and room attendants, according to information provided by the hotel.

A job fair will occur Monday and Tuesday at the Bristol Public Library, 701 Goode St., from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. both days.

Community Jam Sessions

July 21 – December 31 | Birthplace of Country Music Museum


The Birthplace of Country Music Museum will begin hosting a monthly gathering of local musicians for a full-on community jam session starting on Saturday, May 19, 2018. The community jams are open to all ages and all skill levels.

The jam events have been organized to provide a space for local musicians to gather and pick, collaborate, share their experiences, and—most importantly—to have fun!

Jams will be scheduled for the third Saturday of each month from 2:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m., serving as a great warm-up for Saturday night gigs! Musicians are asked to bring their own instruments.

The sessions will be heldin the Learning Center at the Birthplace of Country Music Museum.
