We Love Small Businesses!

Led by the U.S. Small Business Administration, Small Business Week (#SmallBusinessWeek, if you want to follow along on social media) recognizes outstanding small business owners and entrepreneurs throughout the United States and in U.S. territories. According to the SBA, more than half of Americans own or work for a small business. Entrepreneurs also help create two out of every three new jobs in the United States, yearly.

While it may take a bit more than one week-long event each year to successfully create and build upon that kind of environment, it’s key to keep celebrations like National Small Business Week growing and thriving. Show your own love for small business and building our local economy by supporting a small business this (and every) week!

Celebrate Small Business Week by attending the Tri-Cities Small Businesses Festival!

James is constantly touring. He’s on the road about three days a week, forty six weeks a year. He continues to entertain sold-out crowds in theaters and comedy clubs and remains in demand for corporate events. About Virginia Ground
Virginia Ground plays such a unique style of music that they created their own genre just to describe it: That is the Appalachiaphonic. Around Jamen Denton and his fountainesque songwriting is an ensemble of inventive musicians who create a sound at once electrically novel, and yet hauntingly familiar. With Justin Denton on Drums, Logan Fritz on Bass, Blake Collins on Mandolin, Will Outlaw on Trombone, Ben Smith on Harmonica, Jon McGlocklin on Harmony Vocals, and Jamen on Guitar and Lead Vocals, this group marries sounds from blues and funk to country, rock, and reggae, and then tempers their forceful and fluid sounds with elements of Dixieland and swing to craft the Appalachiaphonic.

The Paramount Chamber Players "Of Bohemians and Princes"

May 5 | Paramount Bristol

TICKETS — In its season finale, The Paramount Chamber Players presents two great masterpieces. The first half features the Archduke Piano Trio, named for its dedication to the Archduke Rudolph of Austria, a friend and mentor of Beethoven. The piece is recognized as one of the most transcendent works in all of chamber music for its combination of both spiritual and earth-bound qualities. The second half is the Dvorak piano quartet, a work filled with folk melodies and the sounds of gypsy rhythms. Brahms, though admittedly jealous of Dvorak’s ability to effortlessly pour out melody, championed Dvorak’s music. It’s no wonder that his music has been an audience favorite for more than 100 years! Players appearing include Craig W. Combs, piano; George Figueroa, violin; David Kovac, viola; and Sarah Kapps, guest artist from Atlanta, on cello.

Bristol Ballet presents "Alice in Wonderland"

May 12 | Paramount Bristol

Bristol Ballet presents “Alice in Wonderland” on Saturday, May 12 at 5:30 pm at Paramount Bristol. Jump down the rabbit hole to take a journey through Wonderland with Bristol Ballet’s Company members and student body as they present their annual student concert.

Bristol Ballet’s “Alice in Wonderland” draws inspiration from Lewis Carroll’s classic tale Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. A polite and well-mannered child, Alice is extremely curious about the world around her. When she falls down the rabbit hole, she finds herself in a fantastical but irreverent world where the rules of social etiquette don’t matter and time is irrelevant.

The performance will feature high tech digital displays along with classical ballet and traditional characters and sets. “Alice in Wonderland will be a delightful way to wrap up our 70th anniversary season,” Artistic Director, Michele Plescia. “The performance will have an exciting twist as we plan to use the Paramount’s projection equipment during the show. This use of digital effects will be a fun and challenging way to combine 21st century technology with Bristol Ballet’s 70 year tradition of classical ballet.”

Admission is $11.25 for adults, $9 for students and seniors, and $6.50 for children under 6.
