Documenting Appalachia: From Wood to Singing Guitar

On Saturday, January 24 at 4pm, the Birthplace of Country Music Museum will be hosting a special screening of the Appalshop documentary “From Wood to Singing Guitar” in the Performance Theater. “From Wood to Singing Guitar” showcases Wayne Henderson, the master musician and master luthier from the small town of Rugby. A skilled craftsman and respected musician by his teens, Wayne was taught and encouraged by those around him including gospel singer E. C. Ball and fiddle maker Albert Hash. Wayne continues to do the same for the younger generations by sharing the craft with others like Gerald Anderson, who is passing it onto Spencer Strickland, and encourages any young musician to play with him and his friends. This special screening includes a presentation on guitar building by Gerald Anderson, member of the Virginia Luthiers. The event is free to the public and museum admission is not required.
