VP, Director of the HarperCollins Speakers at Bureau, Jamie Brickhouse, to attend Discovery Series lecture

The Bristol Public Library is proud to announce Jamie Brickhouse, Vice President, Director of the HarperCollins Speakers Bureau (HCSB), will be visiting the Bristol community to observe and participate in the Bristol Public Library’s 2011 Discovery Series.
HCSB is the premiere speaker’s bureau for authors, and a division of HarperCollins Publishers. HarperCollins is one of the world’s leading English-language publishers. Headquartered in New York, the company is a subsidiary of News Corporation; a broad-based publisher with strengths in literary and commercial fiction, business books, children’s books, cookbooks, and mystery, romance, reference, religious, and spiritual books. Consistently at the forefront of innovation and technological advancement, HarperCollins is the first publisher to digitize its content and create a global digital warehouse to protect the rights of its authors, meet consumer demand, and generate additional business opportunities
Mr. Brickhouse has been involved with HarperCollins for five years. During his time, he has taken notice of the authors, news journalists, and other great speakers that the Discovery Series has brought into the Bristol area. During his stay, Brickhouse will be attending the 2nd Annual Spring Gala on Friday, April 15th, as well as the presentation by Dorothea Benton Frank at the Bristol Public Library on Saturday, April 16th. Brickhouse will see firsthand how library programs are promoted to the communities of Bristol, Tennessee and Bristol, Virginia. He will meet several of our community members who put tremendous time and effort into sustaining our public library.
“It has been my pleasure to work with the Bristol Public Library and Foundation Director, Anita Machado, to bring a diverse range of renowned authors to this community,” said Brickhouse. “As a 20-year veteran of the publishing industry, I am extremely impressed with Bristol Library’s Discovery Series and will be using it as an example for libraries around the country to promote literacy.”
By observing the Discovery Series, Brickhouse will be able to see how it is used to promote a culture of literacy and lifelong learning in Bristol by increasing the use of and appreciation of library services.

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month and the Crisis Center has organized The Clothesline Project to honor women and men who have been affected by sexual and domestic violence. The Clothesline Project works to create awareness about these issues; it celebrates those who have survived, and remembers those who lost their lives due to such violence. Join us and enjoy local music, food vendors and make t-shirts that reflect your experience or... the experience of a loved-one. The event is free of charge. Donations are appreciated and will go to the sexual assault program at the Crisis Center.
