Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion's 10th anniversary celebration achieved its largest audience to date with a record number of 45,000 people in attendance, up 13,000 from last year.
"It took a couple weeks to get an accurate count," says the festival's Executive Director Leah Ross. "We counted everyone from volunteers to artists, vendors, and media. We wanted to make sure any number we quoted was as close as possible to the number of people who were there over the entire weekend."
Indicators of record attendance were glimpsed back in the summer when a drive for early ticket sales was up 53% from 2009. "We didn't want to speculate on attendance from early ticket sales. People may have been planning their trips earlier, there was really no way to know," says Ross.
The festival welcomed visitors from 8 foreign countries and 36 states. Birthday parties, class reunions and company picnics are just a sample of how the community has embraced Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion, celebrated annually the third weekend in September.
Though Saturday was the big day for the event, significant increases in attendance were seen on Friday and Sunday. The festival credits a star-studded line-up spread out through the entire weekend for those numbers.
"Fans have communicated to us that booking bands like Joe Diffie, John Anderson and The Carolina Chocolate Drops on Sunday kept them Downtown until the event was over," says Music Committee Co-Chair Dave Stallard.
