State Street Farmers Market

August 15, 2012 | 12 am

The State Street Farmers Market is in the middle of one of its most successful seasons with lots of vendors, both produce and craft, citing this year as just another great year at the market. Market officials announced the Wednesday evening market openings to begin on Wednesday, July 11, 2012.
“Everyone seems to really enjoy the evening markets. It gives our customers an opportunity to come to the market right after work, pick up fresh produce to serve on that evening’s dinner table. The response has been extremely positive in the past couple of years,” said Terry Napier, Director of Parks and Recreation, the city department that oversees market operations.
The market will be closed on Wednesday, July 4th in observance of the Independence Day holiday. Napier cited vendors and customers wanting to spend the day with their families as the reason for closing the market. “There are so many things going on during the evening hours especially on the 4th of July it only seems logical not to expect a large turnout among market patrons or vendors,” Napier continued.
The State Street Farmers Market is open on Saturdays, May through October and on Saturdays and Wednesdays July through September. Market hours on Saturdays are 8:00 AM to 12 Noon and on Wednesdays from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
A limited edition farmer’s market poster series is available at no charge during market hours each Saturday and Wednesday. A new poster design is offered at the beginning of each month during the 6-month market season and will be obtainable until the supply is depleted.
The State Street Farmers Market opened in 1999 at 810 State Street at the Downtown Center.
