Mark Bauerlein to speak at Bristol Public Library

Mark Bauerlein is a professor of English at Emory University and a former Director of Research and Analysis at the National Endowment for the Arts, where he oversaw studies about culture and American life. Apart from his scholarly work, he publishes in popular periodicals such as The Wall Street Journal, The Weekly Standard, The Washington Post, TLS, and Chronicle of Higher Education. His latest book, The Dumbest Generation: How the Digital Age Stupefies Young Americans and Jeopardizes Our Future; Or, Don't Trust Anyone Under Thirty, was published in 2008. His recent article, "Diminishing Returns in Humanities Research, " takes on some of the established practices in the Humanities Departments of many colleges and universities. At the Buechner Institute, he will address "Online Literacy of a Lesser Kind."
