Childrens Acting Classes at Theatre Bristol

November 2–30, 2010

Because of the demand for additional classes, Theatre Bristol is pleased to
announce that in addition to the Monday night acting classes, we will also
be hosting Tuesday night classes as well.

There will be two classes offered; one for beginners and one for more
advanced actors. The classes will be available for students ages 9 and up.
The beginners class will meet Tuesdays from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. and the
intermediate class will ...meet Tuesdays from 7:45 to 9:15 pm, from October
19th to November 30th. The cost per student is ONLY $75 for the entire
course. Placements evaluations will be made based on a scene reading and
will be held on Tuesday, October12th at 6 p.m. All applicants who read will
be placed in a class. The reading determines the class in which the student
will be placed. The scenes are available at Theatre Bristol’s office by
calling 423.968.4977. There is a refundable $5 deposit required for scene
reading materials.

The beginners’ class will focus on improvisational games to teach movement
and how to convey emotions, also focusing on creative thinking. Then the
class would move on to short monologues from plays or poems, depending on
each student’s comfort level with the material. The class would culminate
with some short scenes in pairs or groups. The intermediate class would have
a similar layout, but with more challenging material. Both classes will
teach through a variety of techniques including games. The games would be
directed at communication styles, how to convey emotions, and understanding
character situations.

Theatre Bristol is pleased to have Samantha Strader instructing these
classes, who most recently taught the 7-12 graders at Theatre Bristol’s
Theatre Rock Summer Camp in July. Samantha is a Theatre graduate from Middle
Tennessee State University. Previous teaching/directing experience includes:
the YMCA; the ETSU Upward Bound Program; and several children’s productions
in Murfreesboro. Samantha will be stage managing Theatre Bristol’s upcoming
production of Willy Wonka and will be directing Schoolhouse Rock Live Jr. in
the spring.
