Youth Acting Classes at Theatre Bristol
September 20 – October 25, 2010
Theatre Bristol will offer two acting classes for youth ages 9 to 18 this fall: one for beginners and one for more advanced actors.
The beginner class will meet Mondays from 6-7:30 p.m., while the intermediate class will meet Mondays from 7:45- 9:15 p.m., from September 20 to October 25. The cost per student is $75.
Auditions will be held on Monday, September 13 at 6 p.m. Audition materials are available at Theatre Bristol's office during regular business hours by calling 423-968-4977. There is a refundable $5 deposit required for audition materials. A minimum of six (6) students per class is required and classes will not exceed 15 students per class.
The beginner class will focus on improvisational games to teach movement and how to convey emotions, also focusing on creative thinking. Then the class would move on to short monologues from plays or poems, depending on each student's comfort level with the material. The class would culminate with some short scenes in pairs or groups.
The intermediate class would have a similar layout but with more challenging material. Both classes will teach through a variety of techniques, including games. The games would be more directed at communication styles, how to convey emotions, and understanding character situations.
Samantha Strader is working with Theatre Bristol on these classes. Strader most recently taught grades 7-12 at Theatre Bristol's Theatre Rock Summer Camp .She is a theater graduate from Middle Tennessee State University. Previous teaching/directing experience includes the YMCA, the ETSU Upward Bound Program, and several children's productions in Murfreesboro.
Strader will be stage managing Theatre Bristol's production of Willy Wonka this fall and will be directing Schoolhouse Rock Live Jr. in the spring.
