Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebrations

  • Bristol virtual community celebration going live at 2 pm January 17 on Facebook.com/ywcatnva
  • The YWCA of Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia will be participating in the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service by honoring early childhood education instructors.
  • Walking Challenge sponsored by Rivers Way.
  • APEC,Appalachian Peace Education Center, plans an in-person celebration and march on Saturday, January 15 at the Abingdon Farmers Market, January 13 talk by Dr. Jerry Jones, and additional events.
  • Events by the Birthplace of Country Music Museum’s radio show and museum exhibits and partnerships with Arts Alliance Mountain Empire (AAME).
  • King University hosting speaker and author, Natasha Sistrunk Robinson, "Choosing Freedom & Courage in aDivided World" January 17 at 7 pm at Lee Street Baptist Church; January 18, "Beauty from Ashes: A Purpose and a Call" at 10 am at King University Memorial Chapel.
  • Candlelight gathering at 6:30 pm on January 17 at Lee Street Baptist Church prior to the 7 pm presentation.
  • Activities supporting Voter Rights, a theme of Dr. King, and Representative John Lewis.
  • The Bristol MLK committee would like to encourage other community groups and organizations to participate in the celebration by creating their own day of service project.
