The Birthplace of Country Music Museum and Tennessee State Museum are partnering together for a special Teacher In-Service Program. Learn more about the educational resources provided by both museums, activities to take back to your classrooms, and field trip opportunities.

Times
9:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m. (elementary/middle school)
1:00 p.m.–4:00 p.m. (high school)

Each in-service will include 30 minutes of coffee and conversation after each session.

Each 3-hour session will include:

  • 1½ hours with Tennessee State Museum educators including a short presentation about the new museum and its resources; a traveling trunk activity focused on suffrage history; and a classroom activity focused on the Civil War
  • 1½ hours with the Birthplace of Country Music Museum curatorial staff including a short tour of the museum focused on the school field trip experience; museum activities and lessons; and information about upcoming special exhibits: For All the World To See, on visual imagery and the civil rights struggle, and Reading Appalachia, on Appalachian children’s literature.

*While the Tennessee State Museum education plan is focused on Tennessee state standards, the aim of this workshop is to provide support for broad historical themes relevant to both Tennessee and Virginia teachers.

Cost: Free to teachers
