Call for Parade Entries for Star-Spangled Weekend

June 25, 2012

The organization "Celebrate Bristol" is announcing a Call for Parade Entries for Star-Spangled Weekend to be held on Saturday June 30th. Plans are being finalized for Bristol's annual Independence weekend celebration in downtown Bristol, which will include a concert and food at Cumberland Square Park, a motorcycle Poker Run held on Saturday and the AACA Antique Car Show will be held on Friday evening, and other fun family events. The Bristol Host Lion’s Club will host their second annual Rubber Duck Race, which will be held following the parade at 11:15am in Beaver Creek. The annual parade will begin on Morrison Blvd at 10:00am and follow the traditional route down State Street to end at Lee Street at the park. Line-up will begin at 8:00am on Morrison Blvd.

Richard Ball, parade coordinator, is announcing that entries are now being accepted for Bristol's Independence parade. Every attempt will be made to make space for any interested organization. Businesses, churches, school bands, non-profit, civic and historical organizations in the Tri-Cities are encouraged to show their patriotism and civic pride by placing their floats in this city-wide event. Because of strong support of the business community the entry fee has been waved for those desiring to participate. Professional floats will be available on a first come-first served basis.
Contact Richard Ball for details and parade rules at 276-466-4009.

A schedule of events for Bristol's Independence weekend will also include Music & Movies in the Park on Thursday June 28, sponsored by BVU. The Celebrate Bristol Car Cruise-in will be held the following day on Friday June 29. Also, June 28 – 30 Celebrate Bristol will hold special Apple Pie, Watermelon & Hot Dog eating contests and the Saturday ballgame will be followed by fireworks sponsored by Pepsi. Saturday June 30 will have events beginning with the annual Independence Parade, music and food at Cumberland Square Park, the Celebrate Bristol Poker and Bug Run and many other events in historic downtown Bristol. There will be an upcoming announcement as to the entire schedule but visit the Celebrate Bristol facebook page, Celebrate Bristol VA-TN, for details on the entire weekend.
