AiPP — Outdoor Sculpture Competition 2010

The cities of Bristol, TN/VA, are accepting submissions from sculptors for our fifth Outdoor Sculpture Competition. Up to ten works will be selected for a one-year exhibition in downtown Bristol, TN/VA. A $1000 stipend will be awarded to each of the artists chosen.

Entry Guidelines:
Artists must be 18 years of age or older and residing in the USA.

Work must be
• Original and executed within the past three years.
• Three-dimensional.
• Suitable for outdoor installation and able to be structurally
secured to a concrete pad.
• Capable of withstanding adverse weather conditions and
high traffic areas and safe for children.
• Suitable for family viewing.

Works deemed unsafe, overly fragile, or otherwise unsuitable will not be considered for the exhibition.

Size Limitations: No work can exceed 15 feet in height or weigh more than 500 pounds.

Entry Instructions:
A non-refundable fee of $15 enables artists to submit up to three entries. Make check or money order payable to Arts Alliance Mountain Empire with a notation that it is for the Art in Public Places Sculpture Competition.

Each artist must submit a maximum of three high resolution digital photographs detailing alternate views for each entry. Images must be in jpeg format and can be emailed to submissions@aippbristol.org. Artists must submit the title, size, materials used, and listed insurance price of each piece entered. Each artist must also submit a high resolution photograph of him- or herself, a short biography, and a statement about the work.

If not emailed, images, entry form, biography, and artist’s statement should be sent with check or money order to:

Additional Information:
Sculptures will be insured by the cities of Bristol, TN/VA, for the duration of the exhibit. The cities of Bristol, TN/VA, will provide heavy equipment and personnel to facilitate installation on site where needed. Sales of sculptures are actively encouraged. A 20% commission will go to Art in Public Places on all works sold as a result of the exhibit. All sculptures must remain on site during the one-year period of display. Artists will be notified no later than June 15th, 2010 if their work has been selected.

Artist responsibilities (if work is chosen):
• Artist must be present during installation of sculpture and during the Reception and Walking Tour.
• Artist must also allow use of his or her likeness and biographical information for publicity purposes by Art in Public Places.
• Transportation arrangements are primarily the responsibility of the artist.
