September Art D'Vine Hosts Arts & Entertainment Fundraiser in Historic Downtown Bristol

September 09, 2014
On Friday, September 12, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., the downtown Bristol galleries are again joining forces to bring Art D’Vine to the local community, with the gallery hop serving as the unveiling of our canvases for the Arts & Entertainment District Fundraiser. This art walk offers patrons the chance to gain after-hours access to merchants, sample domestic and international wines, and enjoy a range of works from artists across the region.

As with the previous gallery hops, participants are invited to stroll around Historic Downtown Bristol, stopping at Kil’n Time, Benjamin Walls Gallery, A Work of Art Gallery (formerly 606 Gallery), One of a Kind Gallery, blowfish emporium, Pretty Girl Station, and Hatching Perspective Gallery. Many of the galleries will feature different varieties of wine for sampling.

“Art D’Vine is the perfect way to explore downtown Bristol’s art scene – and to meet all of the other wonderful art enthusiasts that call Bristol home,” says Brad White, Associate Director of Believe in Bristol.

The Art D’Vine galleries will be highlighting various special events, releases or artists, including:

· Kil’n Time will be offering 20% off select Rhythm & Roots themed ceramic items.

· Benjamin Walls images recently chosen for exhibit at The Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History. The exhibit, entitled "Wilderness Forever," is part of a nationwide celebration commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Wilderness Act – a landmark legislation that has preserved over 100 million acres of land since its signing in 1964. Benjamin's two successful images were among only 64 images chosen for display from more than 5,500 professional submissions. The exhibit opens September 3 in Washington, DC, but you can see the newly awarded images here in downtown Bristol at Art D'Vine.

· Several artists will be unveiling new works at 7pm at A Work of Art Gallery.

· One of a Kind Gallery will be introducing the work of Jamie Estes of Thistle Ridge Soaps. The gallery will also be offering 40% off all canvases.

· Resident artist Michelle McKinney will be painting at blowfish emporium.

· As part of our Arts & Entertainment Fundraiser, Pretty Girl Station will be showcasing a series of 8x8 canvases donated by local artists. Thank you to all of the wonderful artists that donated their time and great talents so that we could have this event!!

Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion Voted Among "Top 100" Destinations by ABA

September 09, 2014
Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion now ranks among the American Bus Association's premier Top 100 Events in North America for motorcoach tour groups. Each year tens of millions of tourists visit destinations in North America as groups on motorcoach trips. The American Bus Association has released the entire list of Top 100 Events in North America. This list is the annual announcement for group travel in the United States and Canada. It's published as a guide for travel professionals and the general public when planning group tours and vacations.

"We are grateful to Tennessee Department of Tourist Development for nominating Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion for ABA's Top 100 list," says executive director Leah Ross. "The honor will bring tourists from all over the world to the festival and to the Birthplace of Country Music Museum."

Each spring, the Top 100 Selection Committee, which is comprised of group travel professionals, selects the winners from hundreds of nominated fairs, festivals, parades, exhibits, theaters and shows based on their broad appeal, accessibility to large groups, and other criteria.

The Top 100 Events will be published as a special supplement to the September/October issue of Destinations magazine. You can also find a full listing of the winners at http://www.buses.org/News-Publications/Top-100.

The American Bus Association (ABA) is the trade organization of the intercity bus industry, with more than 1,000 motorcoach and tour company members in the United States and Canada. Its members operate charter, tour, regular route, airport express, special operations and contract services. Another 2,800 members are travel and tourism organizations and suppliers of bus products and services who work in partnership with the North American motorcoach industry.

Believe in Bristol receives $5,000 in First Tennessee's 150 Days of Giving!

September 09, 2014
Believe in Bristol would like to thank the First Tennessee Foundation for its gift of $5,000 as part of its 150 Days of Giving.

First Tennessee has a proud tradition of investing in its communities, and that’s why we made the First Tennessee Foundation’s 150 Days of Giving part of the bank’s 150th anniversary celebration. Through the 150 Days of Giving, the First Tennessee Foundation awarded $5,000 to a different nonprofit each day for 150 days. That’s $750,000 we’ve invested to make our communities better, and it’s on top of the $5 million the First Tennessee Foundation traditionally gives each year. Our first winner was determined on March 25, First Tennessee’s 150th birthday, and voting wrapped up 150 days later, on Aug. 21. When all was said and done, we had more than 1.4 million votes in the 150 Days of Giving. That shows just how much people care about making our communities better for us all. This fall we’ll bring our winners together so we can congratulate them on the tremendous work they do and pass out all those $5,000 checks.
