The Southern Churn Opens Its Doors!

August 19, 2014
City leaders approved $25,000 Tuesday to assist a business owner reinvest in the downtown area and open a new ice cream shop on State Street.
Cranberry Lane owner Karen Hester joined members of City Council and the Industrial Development Authority in the opening of her new store, The Southern Churn Ice Cream and Candy Shoppe on State Street.

Hester said she intentionally crafted the business out of her own childhood and used memories of the old days of downtown to go with a personal investment of over $100,000.

"I delivered ice cream growing up in Marion, so this is truly a dream come true," Hester said. "You cannot manufacture the reaction of someone getting an ice cream. It's like being a kid again and this is something I wanted to help make the downtown area better."
The new shop will also create up to 10 new jobs and Hester told city planners that she anticipates revenues of up to $500,000 annually within the next four years.

Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion's Green Pack is looking for volunteers

August 19, 2014
During Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion, you will see Green Heroes walking the streets. Our mission? To make the Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion greener each year!

Our main focus is to recycle as much as possible. There will be 30 recycle stations scattered throughout the festival footprint where people can recycle plastic, aluminum, and paper. We also help our vendors to recycle cardboard and to dispose of waste water, and for the first time we have asked our food vendors to only use recyclable materials for their cutlery, dishes, etc.

If you’d like to be part of the Green Pack this year, please go to www.BristolRhythm.com to fill out a volunteer application – be sure and check Recycle / Green Pack as your preference.

INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITY!!! Own a swank residential loft as well as prime retail space that brings in over $32,000 per year in current income with expectations to boom with city development projects, etc.!
There is just something different about loft living~ walking to the local café, strolling over to the park, listening to music from the streets in your comfy chair by your window, browsing unique boutiques right around the corner... the list can go on and on!
We are looking to sell our wonderful building, which hosts a 2400 sq ft residential loft apartment and a 1600 sq ft retail space. Here are details about each space:

Loft Area:
There is custom iron railing from the beginning of this space starting with the back deck and displayed throughout. You are welcomed into the loft by a view of the beautiful original brick and hardwood floors. The exposed duct work and wood joist add to the unique industrial yet homey feel of the loft. The master suite is located at the back which includes a custom walk-through closet with granite counter tops. The master suite bathroom eludes to a spa-like setting, to include a 100 square foot steam shower with bench and 3 different shower heads. Continuing down the hallway, you will pass a laundry closet and full guest bathroom. Next, you step into a chef kitchen equipped with a gas stove and stainless steel appliances, wine rack around the refrigerator and granite counter tops. The space is an open concept with the dining and living areas all open with 24 foot ceilings. This space includes a gas fireplace and beautiful wood mantel which matches the exposed wood beams. The living space overlooks the 500 black of Historic Downtown Bristol, across from The Paramount. Continue up the custom spiral staircase into the second bedroom/office. Keep in mind that the "third floor" overlooks the second floor space. Walk across the 18 foot long catwalk into the third bedroom. The skylight dome gives the entire center space natural light. The residential loft includes approximately 600 feet of storage space, not included in the 2,400 square feet of living space.

Retail Area:
One of the buildings most appealing features is its unique curvature window display, one of the only of its kind left in the United States. The retail space includes 1,600 sq ft of original hardwood floors, a functional 100 sq ft vaulted safe and recessed ceiling design. This space has hosted many successful businesses, currently a local arts gallery and studio space. Included in the retail space is a bathroom and storage closet.
