Registration open for Who Art You? summer art camp in Historic Downtown Bristol!

Find Yourself at Art Camp in Historic Downtown Bristol!

By joining our Who Art You? camp, your child can leave their mark on the Bristol arts! This camp focuses on 15 downtown arts and entertainment activities hosted by our local arts-related businesses — activities include painting, pottery, graphic arts, creative movement, music, storytelling, karate, yoga, and much, much more.

There are two week-long summer sessions, with the camp running daily from 9a.m. to 3p.m. Session 1 is scheduled for June 23 — 27 and Session 2 for July 21 — 25; the cost is $250 per child and $25 off for 2+ children.

Bristol once again featured in travel news!

Bristol is once again in the news! Jay Jones, a travel writer who worked through the Bristol Convention and Visitors Bureau, visited Bristol last fall to write an article about Bristol’s musical heritage for the Chicago Tribune. Not only did the article appear in the Chicago Tribune yesterday but it was also featured in the Orlando Sentinel. The Tribune is the 10th largest newspaper in the country with a daily circulation 414,930 while the Sentinel’s circulation is in excess of 212,000 daily. A big CONGRATULATIONS goes out to the CVB on their continued diligence in promoting Bristol throughout the country.

The non-profit Partnership for America has recently moved to Historic Downtown Bristol — so let's give them a warm welcome! Details about the organization and their mission can be found athttp://the-pfa.org.

The Cuddle Me Program in TN and VA is in need of baby clothes, bottles, diapers, etc.
They are also looking for baby gear, and will take exersaucers, jumperoos, strollers, pack-n-plays, cribs, carriers, etc.Diaper Drives will also be coming up, and they are looking for churches or groups willing to conduct diaper drives. These drives can include baby equipment, food and formula.

The Beaver Creek Storytellers will be regularly telling tall tales and true stories to an audience at the Believe in Bristol office — the first Tuesday of each month, 7 — 9pm! ArtSmart Classes now being held at Bristol Public Library

ArtSmart art classes are back at the Bristol Public Library! Classes are held every second Saturday from 10:00 to 11:30am, and the next class is Saturday, May 10. Cost is $5.00 for supplies at the library, and the classes are open to ages 6 — 12 years old. ArtSmart is a partnership between William King Museum and the Bristol Public Library, and classes are centered around books and the exhibits at the WKM. Junior League of Bristol Caterpillar Crawl 5K and Family Fun Run in Historic Downtown Bristol

The Junior League of Bristol Caterpillar Crawl 5K and 1 Mile Family Fun Run will be held on Saturday, May 10 at 8am. The race starts and finishes at Cumberland Square Park and will be followed by a family friendly Caterpillar Crawl carnival! Cost of registration: 5K — $20/preregistration, $25/day of registration; 1 mile — $15/preregistration, $20/day of registration. The one mile run/walk will be untimed, but all children 12 and under will receive a participation ribbon.

A Tango lesson and Ballroom and Latin Dance will be held at the Bristol Ballet Studio, 519 State Street, Bristol, VA on Friday, May 9 from 7:30 until 10:30pm. The tango lesson will begin at 7:30pm, and it will be followed by dancing from 8:30pm until 10:30pm. There is a suggested donation of $5 to support the non-profit Bristol Ballet; refreshments provided, but bringing a snack to share is always welcome!

Theatre Bristol presents a special limited engagement- Robert Harling's "Steel Magnolias"

Press conference by Bristol, Virginia, Historic District Preservation Award Committee to announce annual award program and inaugural recipient

The Bristol, Virginia, Historic District Preservation Award Committee will hold a media conference Thursday, May 8, 2014 at 1:00pm at Pleasant Hill, 214 Johnson Street, Bristol, Virginia, to announce the new annual Historic District Preservation Award program, and to recognize the recipient of the inaugural award. The mission of the committee is to encourage excellence in preservation and thereby decrease blight in the City by recognizing and honoring property owners and developers who engage in high-quality preservation projects within the city’s five historic districts. The historic districts include: Euclid Avenue Historic District, Solar Hill Historic District, Bristol Downtown Commercial Historic District, Bristol Warehouse Historic District, and Virginia Hill Historic District. As the press conference will be held outside, please dress for the weather. Information about the application requirements and awards procedure will be provided in a media kit distributed at the conference. Applications will be available in May 2014. The award will be presented annually in May, National Historic Preservation Month. The public is invited to attend the media conference. Health Education Series: 2014 Presents Program on Diabetes at the Bristol Public Library

The popular Health Education Series: 2014 addresses one of the most dominant and critical public health concerns in our region with its next presentation on Diabetes on Thursday, May 8 at 6:30 PM in the J. Henry Kegley Meeting Room of the Bristol Public Library. The speaker will be Dr. Jennifer Sorah from the Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy Practice at East Tennessee State University. The Health Education Series: 2014 is a partnership of the Bristol Public Library, the Quillen College of Medicine, the Bristol Family Residency Program, and Wellmont Health Systems. Programs at presented on the second Thursday of each month at 6:30 PM at the Bristol Public Library. Dr. Raymond Feierabend is both moderator and coordinator for the program.

"Quickbooks for Beginners" at the Bristol YWCA

The Bristol Entrepreneurial Center will be presenting "Quickbooks for Beginners" on Wednesday, May 7 at 8:30am at the Bristol YWCA. Quickbooks is one of the best tools for keeping track of your business finances, inventory, etc. This training session, which is held at the Bristol YWCA from 8:30 a.m. — 12 noon, will give you hands-on experience using the program. An advanced course will be offered in September. RSVP were meant to be in by May 5 so call 423-989-4850 to see if spaces are still available.
