Sunset Shopping Begins in Historic Downtown Bristol on Thursday, April 3 — Come out and shop local!

The Sunset Shopping Downtown initiative will kick off on Thursday, April 3rd and run every Thursday night from 5:00 – 8:00 pm until October 2, 2014! The purpose of this is to give customers and visitors extended hours to shop in our unique downtown — so come on out and enjoy the shopping!

Participating retailers include 606 State Street Gallery, Be.Ella, Benjamin Walls Gallery, blowfish emporium, Cranberry Lane, LC King/Pointer Brand, Misty Mountain Designs, Mountain Empire Comics, One of a Kind Gallery, Pen’s Floral, Phyl’s of Bristol, Pretty Girl Station, Serendipity, Shoozies, Studio 6 Apparel, and Wm. King Clothiers.

Get your Sunset Shopping Downtown restaurant rewards card at participating restaurants as a thank you for shopping local. An array of various discounts from our very own 620 State Street, Blackbird Bakery, Burger Bar, KP, Little Italy, Macado’s, and Machiavelli’s.

For the big kick-off on Thursday, April 3, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., we will be giving a free Sunset Shopping Downtown large shopping bag to the first 50 retail customers with a valid receipt as a thank you from us!

Three Award-winning Poets Celebrate National Poetry Month and National Library Week at the Bristol Public Library

Three regional award-winning poets will appear at the Bristol Public Library on April 13th at 2:00 PM. As part of the celebration of April as National Poetry Month and National Library Week, poets Janice Hornburg, Gretchen McCroskey, and Jane Bird will perform readings of their works and discuss the poetic process from their perspectives. Health Educations Series Returns to the Bristol Public Library for a Look at New Guidelines for Hypertension and Cholesterol.

The very popular Health Education Series presentations will return to the Bristol Public Library on April 10th at 6:30 PM. Part of an ongoing partnership between the Library, The Bristol Family Residency Program of The Quillen College of Medicine and the Wellmont Health Systems, the Health Education Series takes a wide-ranging look at public health issues in our region. Previous presentations have been on dementia, anxiety and depression, Obamacare, cancer treatment, and end-of-life ethical issues and directives. The April 10th presentation, given by Dr. Robin Feierabend is “New Guidelines on Hypertension and Cholesterol: the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.” Dr. Feierabend also coordinates the Health Education Series. "Dealing with Irate Customers" at the Bristol Chamber of Commerce

The Bristol Entrepreneurial Center will be presenting "Dealing with Irate Customers" on Tuesday, April 8 at 8:30am at the Bristol Chamber of Commerce. This one-hour training session will teach practical ways to help your employees remain calm and turn an irate customer into a satisfied one. Please RSVP by April 4 by calling 423-989-4850. All classes are free to Chamber members, while the cost for non-members is $35.

The Clothesline Project at the Downtown Center (Farmers' Market)

The Clothesline Project will be held on Saturday, April, 5, 12 — 3pm at the Downtown Center (810 State Street, Bristol, TN — the Farmers' Market site). This project works to create awareness about sexual assault and domestic violence; it celebrates those who have survived and remembers those who lost their lives due to such violence. Representatives from agencies that help women who have experienced sexual and domestic violence, supportive businesses, artisans, and various performers who are committed to the cause will be at the event — so come join them, enjoy local music and vendors, and make t-shirts that reflect your experience or the experience of a loved one. Bristol Ballet presents "Coppelia" at the Paramount

The Bristol Ballet will be performing "Coppelia” on Saturday, April 5 at 7pm and Sunday, April 6 at 2pm at the Paramount Center for the Arts. Coppelia is a charming, funny ballet full of humor, classical ballet, lively character dancing, and ballet mime. Franz falls in love with Coppelia, not realizing that she is really a doll built by Dr. Coppelius. Franz’s fiancé, Swanhilda, becomes jealous of the attention Franz gives Coppelia, and sneaks into Dr. Coppelius’ workshop to meet Coppelia. Upon discovering that she is really a doll, Swanhilda plays a trick on Dr. Coppelius to make him think his doll has really come to life. This ballet is lively and fun, and appropriate for all ages. Theatre Bristol presents "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs"

Theatre Bristol announces its first show of 2014, raising the curtain on its 49th season, with the fairy tale “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs." Performances of “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” will open Friday, March 28 at the ARTspace Theatre at 506 State Street, Bristol, and run Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays through Sunday, April 13th. The Friday and Saturday performances will be at 7:30 pm. Sunday matinees will be at 2:30 pm. Adult tickets are $12.00. Senior (60+), student and children’s tickets are $10.00. House concert with Donna Ulisse & The Poor Mountain Boys at Downtown Loft!

Con and Nancy Sauls will be hosting a bluegrass house concert on Friday, April 4, at 7:30pm — featuring Donna Ulisse & The Poor Mountain Boys! Donna was an IBMA Songwriter of the Year nominee in 2012 and 2013, and has been described as "one of the most commanding voices in bluegrass music" by Edward Morris on CMT.com.
