Tri-Cities 1st Dedicated Stand-Up Paddle Board Store Opens in Bristol, TN!

June 11, 2013
The hottest trend in water sports is hitting the Tri-Cities with the opening of its first dedicated Stand-Up Paddle Board store: "TriSUP" Tri-Cities Stand-Up Paddleboard Company! A special ribbon cutting ceremony was held onTuesday, June 11 at 2 p.m. by the Bristol Chamber of Commerce with local officials in attendance.

Recently opened at 514 State Street in Bristol, TN, TriSUP is the first locally owned store to feature the lake-style paddle boards that are sweeping the nation. According to an article in the Wall Street Journal, "the stand-up paddling trend comes on the heels of the kayak craze, but offers potentially greater health benefits, especially given recent research showing the hazards of prolonged sitting." (July 20, 2010 by Kevin Helliker).

Stand-up paddle boards (or SUPs, as in "Wassup?") began exploding on both coasts and the Caribbean during the past decade. Now making inland roads to lakes and rivers, SUPs offer a great cross training workout that appeals to tri-athletes and casual users alike. Working the arms, back, shoulders and abdomen, users can get a strong physical workout or simply skim along and enjoy the scenery. Some people even enjoy fishing off SUPs. It is an easy activity to learn and can be tailored to different physical abilities and ages, from grandparents to grandkids.

TriSUP offers a variety of SUP styles and price ranges, rentals and lessons. The store plans to sponsor a race this coming August, an increasingly popular pastime. Another popular activity on SUPs is doing yoga on the boards to enhance the balance aspect of the discipline. Yoga can be done on a SUP balance board on land or a SUP in the water.

For more information about this exciting new activity, contact the TriSUP store at (423) 652-0220, visit www.trisup.net or like us on Facebook at TriSUP. TriSUP is located at 514 State Street in Bristol, right next door to the Paramount Theater. Business hours are Tuesday through Saturday, noon to 5 p.m.
