Business Week at the Bristol Public Library

April 02, 2013
April 8th-10th will be Business Week at the Bristol Public Library with three great, business workshops for the community!

The first workshop, U.S. Census Training for Non-Profits, will be on Monday, April 8th from 9:30am-12:30pm. Learn how to access data about your community directly from your desk by using American Fact Finder (AFF) to access American Community Survey and 2010 Census statistics. These resources can help your outreach dollars stretch by learning where the clients you are trying to reach are located and make your grant applications sparkle with specificity. Participants should bring laptops or tablets. Limited to 30 participants.

The second workshop, People Inc’s Business Basics, will be on Tuesday, April 9th from 9am-12pm. Thinking about starting your own business? This is your opportunity to learn the steps! What does it take to be an Entrepreneur? This workshop is offered at no cost, but registration is required at www.peopleinc.eventbrite.com or by calling (276)619-2243.

The final workshop, U.S. Census Statistics Training for Small Businesses, will be on Wednesday, April 10th from 8am-12pm. This training will explain how to access free marketing data about your local community. Be introduced to Census statistics about households and businesses that will help you understand who your customers and competitors are, and other valuable data about where you do business. If you are conducting market research, writing a business plan or applying for a loan, Census data will help you make more informed decisions. Participants should bring laptops. This event is co-sponsored by Believe in Bristol, Bristol Chamber of Commerce and SCORE.

Registration is required for ALL of these events. Please call (276) 645-8787 to register for either of the U.S. Census Training Workshops.

All three workshops are FREE to the Public and will be held in the J. Henry Kegley Meeting Room at the Bristol Public Library.

For more information on this series or other adult programming, call (276) 645-8781 or visit www.bristol-library.org.

Creative Expression Celebrated with Student Art Gallery in Historic Downtown Bristol

April 02, 2013
Bristol, VA-TN (April 2, 2013) – The Arts and Entertainment District is hosting the 2nd Annual Student Art Display in Downtown Bristol. In an effort to “Cultivate Bristol’s Creativity,” the district has invited the local schools to help us beautify our community by providing art to decorate the front windows of the former Hayes Furniture Building on State Street.

Each school or group that participates has a month-long display period to present their students’ art in the space. The seventh gallery of art went up on April 1, showcasing charcoal still life drawings of everyday objects by 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders from Highland View and Stonewall Jackson Elementary Schools.

“Each month, the student art display presents lively and interesting works of art, giving the local community a chance to appreciate the artistic talents of the children but also to encourage the students to express themselves artistically,” says René Rodgers, Associate Director of Believe in Bristol. “These children are the artists of our future – they will be the ones who sustain the creativity in the Arts & Entertainment District of Historic Downtown Bristol in years to come.”

Artwork by the students from Highland View and Stonewall Jackson Elementary Schools will be on display until April 30, 2013.

For more information, please contact René Rodgers at Believe in Bristol on 276-644-9700, rrodgers@believeinbristol.org, or visit the website at www.believeinbristol.org.
