Buechner Bonus: Screening of Your Name is My Name at Bristol Public Library

March 13, 2013
On Wednesday, March 13th at 6pm, there will be a documentary film screening of Your Name is My Name at the Bristol Public Library. Both the director, Osato Dixon of New York, and the editor, Peter Galassi of Chicago, will be present for a Q&A afterwards. It is a great opportunity for students and the community to see a great film and ask questions to the artists who made it. Osato Dixon, who also has albinism, explores the issues with great compassion. He can also answer questions on the process of applying for a Fulbright Fellowship, which funded his trips to Zimbabwe, and how to relate art and activism with his fundraising to send sunscreen to organizations such as the Zimbabwe Albino Association. Your Name is My Name is the story of young people living through a period of immense turmoil and transformation in Zimbabwe. Two albino orphans, Kefas, 13, and Panashe, 9, take opposing trajectories; one child overcomes family betrayal and disease, while the other is lost to a broken social welfare system and false promises of adoption. Their lives speak to the larger struggles of albinos throughout sub-Saharan Africa. Your Name is My Name is a story told by those actually living in Zimbabwe, who are struggling to survive as their country collapses. We engage contemporary adult struggles through the lives of children with the hope for a better future.
