Appalachian Express Chorus at the Paramount Center for the Arts

The men who comprise the Appalachian Express come from all areas of the greater Tri-Cities, and their talents have allowed the Chorus to become one of the most respected singing organizations in the southeast. The Appalachian Express is part of the NE Tennessee Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society, and has been directed by Tony Bowman since 1982. Show starts at 2pm. Doug and Polly White, authors of “Let Go To Grow,” will host a lunchtime presentation from noon to 1 pm on September 28 at the Bristol Public Library. The Whites are partners at Whitestone Partners, Inc., a management consulting firm guiding small and midsize businesses through profitable growth. Combined, they have more than 50 years of experience enabling companies to achieve their goals. They also have a weekly column for Work It, Richmond, “Ask Doug and Polly” which is now in five markets including: Richmond, Lynchburg, Danville, Bristol and Charlottesville. Closing out the record-breaking event on Sunday from the Alpha Natural Resources State Street Stage, Sam Bush proclaimed, "It is wonderful to be here in this historic place and I wish everyone in America could come and see it." More than 700 participants signed up for Saturday morning's Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center Bristol Rhythm 5k Run/2Mi Fun Walk, also sponsored by Kroger and Appalachian Wellness Chiropractic Center. Of the runners, J Penny crossed the finish line ahead of the pack at 16:00 in the male category, Molly Allen took home the prize in the female division at 19:04. Fun walker Michael Taylor came it at 22:04 of the men, Martha West was the walking-est female with a time 23.09.

Paper Windows Sixth Session Winners Announced

The Paper Windows project’s sixth session titled “Bristol’s Streets” just closed with over 24 entries. The year-long project is one where local photographers can express their feelings about their community through the lens of a camera. “Well over 150 photographs have been entered in the contest. That is an amazing number, but it goes to show how much people love our city, its sights, its beauty and love photography itself,” said Terrie Talbert, Community Relations Director for the city. The first place winner‘s photograph was one of State Street during the spring titled “Spring Dawn on the Line”. The photo was taken by Matthew Mills.
