Pastel Workshop with Shawn Mervis @ blowfish emporium!

Please join blowfish on Saturday, August 25th for a Pastel Workshop with Shawn Mervis, 1-3pm, $55- includes all materials! Complete with work samples and demonstrations of technique followed by guided practice to make sure you get the hang of it! Literature provided that explains how to choose the best grade of pastel and best surface material to fit your style and your budget. Color theory and color mixing is also discussed and provided on handouts. Useful for any artist at the beginner or intermediate level. Registration is required! Food City Family Race Day/Night in Downtown Bristol!

Food City Race Night will be held on State Street from 1pm to 9pm on Thursday, August 23. Advance tickets are $5 at Food City stores or $6 at the gate. Children 12 and under admitted FREE! Bristol Public Library to host the Library Plaza Pit Stop on August 23rdat 1 p.m.

he Bristol Public Library will be hosting the Library Plaza Pit Stop on Thursday, August 23rd from 1 to 6pm as a part of the festivities leading up to race weekend. You can celebrate and support YOUR Library! The events will be held both outside and inside the library. Books, t-shirts, mugs, book bags and other items will be available for purchase. Proceeds from sales will benefit the Bristol Public Library and its programs. There will be fun for the entire family! Children will be Marble Racing in the Children’s Tent! Original Roots Rock with Lawsongarrett & Many More will be playing in the plaza. Local Authors will be available to personalize their books. State Street Farmers Market — open Wed afternoon & Saturday morning!

The market opens in May of each year and remains open through October. Its hours are from 8:00 AM to 12:00 each Saturday and opens Wednesday evenings from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM beginning in July and going through September.

TWIN CITY PHOTO CLUB will be hosting its 5th Annual Rhythm and Roots Photography Competition during the Bristol Rhythm and Roots Reunion Festival.

Entries will be accepted at 41 Piedmont Avenue — Bristol, VA on Saturday September 8th from 10:00 – 2:00, this is a free exhibition . This is the only day that entries will be accepted. The gallery exhibit will be open during the Festival at the same location. This competition is open to amateur photographers only. An “amateur” is defined as someone that makes less than 25 % of his/her income from the sale of his/her photography. All images should reflect life in our Mountain Empire. In the categories of Rhythm and Roots and Rhythm and Roots Altered Image the images may be from prior festivals or from Bristol Border Bash events. All entries must be 8x10 images matted to 11x14 or, 8x12 matted to 12x16 with white, cream, gray or black rectangular mats only. There is no size restriction for the OPEN entries. Paramount honors the memory of Merle Dickert

To honor the memory of Merle Dickert, the Executive Director of the Paramount Theatre for the Performing Arts who suddenly passed away recently, the marquee lights will be dimmed at the theatre continuing each Thursday through September 13. The board of directors of the iconic downtown Bristol landmark, unanimously voted to honor Dickert, who successfully led a resurgence of the Paramount in recent years. “We were shocked and saddened by Merle’s sudden passing,” stated Board President Pierce Elliott. “To honor Merle’s memory, the board unanimously voted to dim the lights on the marquee at the theatre Thursday evenings until the first show of the new season which features The Broadway Tenors on September 20, the final season she helped organize.” A memorial fund to honor Dickert has been established at the Paramount.
