Tennis to Present Talk on Franklin and Washington

Author Joe Tennis will be the guest speaker for a public meeting of the Bristol Historical Association on Monday May 14. The meeting will be held in the J. Henry Kegley Meeting Room at the Bristol Public Library at 6:30pm. Tennis will present the program called “Franklin and Washington: A Lost State and a County of Change.”

The Junior League of Bristol is hosting its annual Caterpillar Carnival in downtown Bristol on May 12 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. This free event will include a downtown crawl, crafts, games, a bouncy house, cookies, free books, and a visit by KC the Caterpillar. After two successful years, the Walsh Family has sold The Bistro back to Troutdale Kitchens, due to health issues. We wish them improved health and much happiness in their new adventures. A few things we would like to share with you – • Hours of Operation will remain the same: Monday-Friday, Lunch and Dinner; and Saturdays, Dinner Only. The phone number will also remain the same: 423-989-3663. • Due to transfer of ownership, the beer and wine permit has to be re-issued. While in the application process, we cannot have beer or wine sales for approximately 30 days. You are very welcome to Bring Your Own Bottle of wine with NO CORKAGE FEE! If you have booked a special event or party that involves alcohol, we would be very happy to accommodate you at just blocks away Troutdale Dining Room or any one of our other locations. • You will notice many new talented and fabulous folks on board. Lowe's Charitable and Educational Foundation Awards $5000 to Keep Bristol Beautiful

Keep Bristol Beautiful and the Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation (LCEF) has announced a major gift in support of Keep Bristol Beautiful’s mission to engage individuals in local community improvement and environmental projects. The Lowe’s/Keep America Beautiful Community Improvement Grant of $5,000 is one of 120 merit-based grants awarded nationally to support grassroots community improvement projects ranging from community gardens and tree plantings to litter and debris cleanups, recycling programs, park and playground restorations and beautification efforts.

2012 Full Moon Jam Concert Series Set to Begin

The annual Full Moon Jam concert series is set to kick-off during the first week of May. The concert series is hosted every Tuesday and Thursday evenings in the 810 State Street venue. This year the local favorites who play country, bluegrass, nostalgia, and rock and roll are all back along with some new bands to our area that bring with them a new sound to old favorites. All concerts begin at 7:00 PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays from May through September. Concessions and restroom facilities are located on site, limited seating is available however bring your own comfortable chair and pick your own spot. There is never a charge for the Full Moon Jam Concerts.

Featured Artists Claudia Rutherfor and Jennifer Molley Wilson at 606 State Street Gallery

May's featured artists at the 606 State Street Gallery are Claudia Rutherfor and Jennifer Molley Wilson. Rutherford is an award-wining watercolor artist. She teaches watercolor classes at The Arts Depot in Abingdon and at the 606 Gallery. Wilson uses the Hipstamatic iPhone app to draw attention to the beauty of the mundane. Recently Wilson added textile art to her repertoire, with "HipstaThreads" skirts created from upcycled t-shirts.
