Nationally Syndicated Columnist, Sharon Randall, to Speak at the Bristol Public Library

The Bristol Public Library will host award-winning writer, Sharon Randall, to speak to the public about her life and her stories during “Coffee with Sharon Randall” on Monday, April 23rd at 10:30am. This event will be held in the J. Henry Kegley Meeting Room at the Bristol Public Library. Ms. Randall’s presentation is open to the public. A donation of $10 per person is suggested. This event is in partnership with the City of Bristol, Tennessee.

The Bristol Public Library hosts program to observe Days of Remembrance THIS Sunday

The Bristol Public Library will host a program to observe the National Days of Remembrance THIS Sunday, Apr. 22, 2012, at 2:30 p.m. in the J. Henry Kegley Meeting Room. Days of Remembrance was established by the U.S. Congress as our nation’s annual commemoration of the Holocaust. The theme for the 2012 observance is Choosing to Act: Stories of Rescue.

A YEAR WITH FROG AND TOAD

Arnold Lobel's well-loved characters hop from the page to the stage in Robert and Willie Reale's musical A YEAR WITH FROG AND TOAD remains true to the spirit of the original stories as it follows two great friends, the cheerful and popular Frog and the rather grumpy Toad through four fun-filled seasons. Waking from hibernation in the spring, they proceed to plant gardens, swim, rake leaves and go sledding, learning life lessons along the way, including a most important one about friendship and rejoicing in the attributes that make each of us different and special. Tickets $10 Adult, $8 Seniors, $5 Local Area Students, King College Students FREE with ID.

History Hits The Highways: Civil War 150 HistoryMobile Returns To Bristol April 20 & 21

The Bristol Convention & Visitors Bureau, in conjunction with the City of Bristol, Virginia, Celebrate Bristol, The Virginia Tourism Corporation and Department of Motor Vehicles will bring The Civil War 150 HistoryMobile to the lower parking lot of the Bristol Public Library, Bristol, VA April 20 and 21 from 10 am to 6 pm. School groups and history buffs of all ages are welcome, and there is no charge for admission. When the HistoryMobile pulled into Bristol last October, it shattered attendance records from throughout the Commonwealth. The Civil War 150 HistoryMobile is an interactive “museum on wheels” housed in a 53’ expandable tractor-trailer. An initiative of the Virginia Sesquicentennial of the American Civil War Commission, the HistoryMobile launched its four-year tour on July 21, 2011, in conjunction with the 150th anniversary commemoration of the First Battle of Manassas (also called Bull Run). The HistoryMobile visits museums, parks, fairs, schools, and other sites throughout the Commonwealth and beyond.

Yoga for Kids class at The Healing Arts Center

The Healing Arts Center, located at 36 Moore Street is now offerning yoga classes for children. Classes are Thursdays from 3:45 to 4:30 and cost $5 per student. Strange Awakenings to perform at 620 State — Fundraiser for Friends of 1927!

Wednesday, April 18th, 2012 at 620 State in Historic Downtown Bristol, TN/VA Jonathan Davis & Strange Awakenings will hold a fundraiser to raise $520 for The Birthplace of Country Music Alliance Cultural Heritage Center. This local Americana group comprised of singer/songwriter Jonathan Davis, bassist/vocalist Pete Buhls and percussionist Justin Denton (formerly of Virginia Ground) have a unique sound and an amazing story. We invite everyone to come out for an evening of live, local music and help the band raise money to get their names on the wall of the Birthplace of Country Music Cultural Heritage Center! With every $20 donation, donors will get a free, vintage BCMA tee shirt!
