PICKIN' FOR PHIL

Pickin’ for Phil is a benefit concert to assist legendary Dobro player Phil Leadbetter with medical bills. The event will take place twice on Sunday, April 1st. In the spirit of the old “Pickin’ at the Paramount” shows, “Pickin’ for Phil” will follow suit with multiple artists from various bands performing with one another. Sunday April 1st, 3:00 & 7:30pm. Art is in Bloom in Downtown Bristol!

The pear trees are in full bloom on State Street signaling the return of warmer weather. With the arrival of spring, Downtown Bristol is celebrating with another Art D’Vine a gallery hop and wine tasting event on State Street. On March 30, the gallery owners of the Arts and Entertainment District of Bristol would like to invite the public to come down and partake in the 7th Art D’Vine from 6 pm to 9 pm. “Art D’Vine has grown substantially from our inaugural event last summer,” says Katherine Bowman, Associate Director of Believe in Bristol. “We are delighted so many people appreciate the variety of arts available in Downtown Bristol.”

Keep Bristol Beautiful Green Week Contest Winners Announced

March 28, 2012
To celebrate Green Week, February 6-11, Keep Bristol Beautiful (KBB) held contests for children in Bristol, Virginia. and Bristol, Tennessee schools. A coloring contest was held for elementary school students and an essay contest for middle and high school students. KBB is proud to announce the following winners: Aly Fuller and Lauren Trotter were the essay contest winners, both from Virginia Middle; Trinity Lundsford and Jacob Smith from Avoca; Kaeleen Robinson and Diana Peters from Washington Lee; Brianna Callahan, Jenna Epperson and Robert Widener from Fairmount; and Sierra Ellis from Haynesfield won the coloring contests. One child per grade level were chosen to receive prizes donated by local business.

Photographer and Artist Ann McCallister will display her photographs at the Bristol Public Library's Virgie R. Fleenor Art Gallery during the months of April & May

Ann McCallister taught art at Tennessee High School in Bristol, Tenn. before retiring in 1997. She began traveling the abroad in the 1980s and has been to many places such as Europe, Hawaii, Belize, Costa Rica, Turkey, Tanzania, Egypt and China. Her photographs were orignally intended to be inspiration for watercolor paintings, but became her means of artistic expression of her love of travel. Ann does not crop or alter her photographs in anyway, but prints them as they are taken.
