CELEBRATION OF DANCE!

With different genres of dance from several Tri-Cities dance companies, Celebration of Dance is a wonderful performance that can’t be missed! Artistic Excellence 2012

Announcing exhibit opening March 3rd 2-4pm, displayed through March at the Bristol Public Library. Artistic Excellence, sponsored by Bristol’s Art in Public Places, is an exciting opportunity for high school art students to showcase their best work and carry with them into their futures confidence and pride in their creative expression .A public opening reception honoring the student will be held on March 3rd, 2012 from 2-4pm at the Vergie R. Fleenor Gallery in the Bristol Public Library in Bristol, Virginia. The art will remain for the month of March for all to enjoy (and share on Facebook!).

The Beaver Creek Storytellers perform March 1 at 606 State Street Gallery

The 606 State Street Gallery presents The Beaver Creek Storytellers, with musical entertainment by John Rucker, on Thursday, March 1, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at 606 State Street, Bristol TN-VA. Admission is free to members, $5.00 to non-members. Refreshments will be served at intermission. The Beaver Creek Storytellers is a non-profit association of storytelling enthusiasts formed in 1997 to support the art of story.

Believe in Bristol Announces Third Annual Downtown Showcase!

Downtown Bristol Tennessee and Virginia is gearing up for Bristol’s Downtown Showcase! This year’s showcase will be an amazing event featuring a signature dish from many of our downtown restaurants, a beer & wine tasting, live music & performances, local art and much, much more — all from our Historic Downtown District! A live & silent auction will be held during the course of the evening. Bristol’s Downtown Showcase will be held on Thursday, March 1, 2012 from 6 – 8pm at the Historic Train Station. Tickets are $55 per person and $100 per couple, space is limited and interested attendees should RSVP to Believe in Bristol at 423-573-2200 or info@believeinbristol.org. Bristol’s Downtown Showcase is a fundraiser for Believe in Bristol; all proceeds will benefit the Main Street Program and downtown revitalization efforts. Local and Award-Winning Author, Kimberly Brubaker Bradley, To Speak at the Bristol Public Library

Local and award-winning author, Kimberly Brubaker Bradley, will speak to the public about her life and her newest book Jefferson’s Sons on Wednesday, February 29th at 7pm. This event will be held in the J. Henry Kegley Meeting Room at the Bristol Public Library. Ms. Bradley’s presentation is free and open to the public. The BPL's 6th Annual Candy Contest Winners

The Bristol Public Library’s 6th Annual Candy Contest was a great success. Chef Norman, an instructor at the Southeast Culinary and Hospitality College, provided a cooking demonstration while Chef Richard Erskine and culinary students Desmond Hill, Jenna Wyatt, Ikeshia Davis and Nick Harley judged the homemade candies. Prizes were awarded for each age group. In the age group of 13-17 years old, Breanna Fleenor took home the first prize with Krispy Delight Fudge. For ages 18 and older, Judy Gass won first place, as well as the grand prize of “Best in Show” with Caramel Pretzels. Milade Saieh-Gomez placed second with Chocolate-Coconut Bon Bons and Joan Hutton took third with “Faux Berries”. During the contest, participants and audience members were invited to sample and enjoy all of the homemade candies. All recipes from today’s contest will be posted for the public on the library’s website at www.bristol-library.org.
