Believe in Bristol Announces Third Annual Downtown Showcase!

Downtown Bristol Tennessee and Virginia is gearing up for Bristol’s Downtown Showcase! This year’s showcase will be an amazing event featuring a signature dish from many of our downtown restaurants, a beer & wine tasting, live music & performances, local art and much, much more — all from our Historic Downtown District! A live & silent auction will be held during the course of the evening. Bristol’s Downtown Showcase will be held on Thursday, March 1, 2012 from 6 – 8pm at the Historic Train Station. Tickets are $55 per person and $100 per couple, space is limited and interested attendees should RSVP to Believe in Bristol at 423-573-2200 or info@believeinbristol.org. Bristol’s Downtown Showcase is a fundraiser for Believe in Bristol; all proceeds will benefit the Main Street Program and downtown revitalization efforts. MUSIC VOYAGER: TENNESSEE to air on PBS this Sunday!

Music Voyager is a music and travel series that spans the globe for intimate access to popular music, and is shown in 170 million homes worldwide. Music Voyager: Tennessee will take viewers largely along the state’s “Music Highway” Interstate 40 from Bristol to Memphis. The series was put together in part by the support of the Tennessee Dept. of Tourist Development, and is only the second state (after Louisiana) to be featured.The program will air on Blue Ridge PBS, Sunday — Feb. 26 at 5:30 pm and features music highlights from Bristol so don't miss it!

ACMA PRESENTS THE 16TH ANNUAL LEON KISER MEMORIAL TRIBUTE SHOW

Saturday, Feb. 25 at 7:00 pm — The 16th Annual Memorial Tribute Show will honor Emily Spencer, The McPeak Brothers, Stoneman Family, Vanover Sisters, and Harry Esenwine for their contributions to Bluegrass music. Enjoy music from White Top Mountain, The McPeak Brothers, The Stonemans, Breaking Tradition, Lightnin’ Charlie, ETSU Bluegrass and Old Time Bands, and many others. Free IRS Tax Prep at BPL!

Tax assistance volunteers provide free income tax preparation assistance. Volunteers are trained and certified by the IRS. Help offered Tuesdays from 5:30 pm — 7:30 pm and Saturdays from 10 am to 2 pm in the William E. Hasslinger Computer Training Room and Literacy Academy Classroom from February 4th — April 10. There is still time to sign up for the 6th Annual Homemade Candy Contest

A reminder that there is still time to sign up for the Bristol Public Library’s 6th Annual Homemade Candy Contest on Friday, February 24th, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the J. Henry Kegley Meeting Room. This event is free and open to the public. Entry forms will be available at the library and on the Bristol Public Library website and should be returned on or before 10:30 a.m. the day of the event. Each contestant should submit approximately 30 pieces to be split between 3-4 judges and distributed for other contestants to enjoy. Samples should be submitted on a non-returnable dish. Recipes should be printed on the back of entry form, or on an 8 ½ x 11 sheet of paper and are subject to be printed in library publications or website. Entry form should be filled out in its entirety. Contestants will be separated by categories by types of candy and by age group.

Bristol Ballet is offering an introductory class for 3 and 4 year olds!

WHEN: Saturdays, 9:30-10:00am (March 10-April 28) COST: $50 tuition, plus $10 registration fee ATTIRE: any color PLAIN leotard (no skirts or tutus attached), pink tights, and pink ballet slippers. These children will not be in the year end Student Concert, since they will only have had 8 weeks of instruction, but it will be a great way to get to know Bristol Ballet and to see if your child is interested in continuing in the 2012-2013 regular season. BCMA Presents Mountain Stage: The Pines Added to Bristol Line-up

The Birthplace of Country Music Alliance and Mountain Stage with Larry Groce is proud to announce The Pines will join Marty Stuart & The Fabulous Superlatives, Blue Highway and The McCrary Sisters at The Paramount Center for the Arts in Bristol Sunday, March 11th at 7:00pm. Mountain Stage, recorded before a live audience, is produced by West Virginia Public Broadcasting and airs on National Public Radio. The Paramount show will be recorded for air at a later date. Only a handful of tickets are still available for the live event.
