The Beaver Creek Storytellers with Becky Wise at 606 State Street Gallery

Join the Beaver Creek Storytellers and Becky Wise of the Java J Jammers at 606 State Street Gallery on February 2 from 7 pm tp 9 pm. Admission is $5, and refreshments will be served at intermission. The Beaver Creek Storytellers of Bristol, Virginia-Tennessee is a non-profit association of storytelling enthusiasts who gather to support the Art of Story.They formed in 1997 when ten storytellers gathered at one member’s office to hone our techniques and performance skills. BCS is dedicated to assisting storytellers in developing their craft, promoting their performances, building a larger audience for story, and providing a community service. Stop by the 606 State Street Gallery in Bristol, Tennessee, on the first Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m. and enjoy the storytelling with us. Our performing guests include storytellers, musicians, singers, and poets.

Miss Bristol, Miss Tri Cities and Miss Mountain Lakes Program set for January 28, 2012

The Miss Bristol, Miss Tri Cities, and Miss Mountain Lakes Scholarship Pageants are preliminaries to the annual Miss Tennessee Scholarship Program which will be held in Jackson, Tennessee on June, 23, 2012. In turn, Miss Tennessee is the official state preliminary to the Miss America Program. Award certificates will go to the top talent, interview, swimsuit, and evening gown winners. Shirl Mikeal art signing at Cranberry Lane

Please join us at Cranberry Lane on Saturday, January 28th from 1-3, as we welcome artist Shirl Mikeal for an art signing. Shirley Keesee Mikeal, known by her friends and loved ones as Shirl Mikeal, was born in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains in Bristol, Virginia. Shirl now resides in Bristol, Tennessee, with her husband Glen. In 1984, while teaching landscape painting classes, Shirl began adding New England style saltbox houses and weathered barns to her paintings. She concentrated on adding fine detail to her images and developed her own style of painting. Her love for painting this type of art has grown immensely over the years.

Each cupcake helps underwrite the cost of patient care expenses including medications and medical supplies. Artists for Friends of 1927!

From now through May, local musicians are getting on board by using their gigs as mini-fundraisers for Friends of 1927. The inaugural Artists for Friends of 1927 fundraiser will be held on Wednesday, January 25th at 8:30pm for Annie Robinette at 620 State. A second will take place on Saturday, January 28th at 8:00pm at Machiavelli’s for These Undowners. Special guests Josh Oliver (the everybodyfields/Jill Andrews) and Cruz Contreras (The Black Lillies) will also perform that evening. A third fundraiser will be held March 31st at Machiavelli’s for Bentley, Jared & Vanessa Bentley’s newly formed group. More dates with other area artists are in the works.

Multi-Grammy winner Marty Stuart & the Fabulous Superlatives will share the stage with Grammy nominated and International Bluegrass Music Association standout group Blue Highway.
