October 29, 2011
On Saturday, October 29, 2011 there will be plenty to do in Downtown Bristol for the entire family. Beginning early Saturday morning at the State Street Farmers Market, the Bristol Tennessee Parks & Recreation Department will partner with Believe in Bristol to host the thirteenth annual Pumpkin Palooza event! There will be fun and games galore. Wear your favorite costume to the market and participate in the costume parade, then take a few minutes to decorate a pumpkin of your choice to take home. There will be treat bags for kids of all ages. Pumpkin Palooza will take place at the Downtown Center located at 810 State Street from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Once you do the parade walk and decorate your pumpkin, continue down State Street to trick–or-treat with merchants. Enjoy a few additional spots on State Street thanks to Believe in Bristol Arts & Entertainment District like — Pumpkin Chunkin at Kil’n Time Pottery, face painting at One of a Kind Gallery, or just take a break at one of the storytelling stations along the street and listen to a ghost story by the Beaver Creek Storytellers and the Bristol Public Library. Please note that Twin City Photo Club will be available during Pumpkin Palooza to take a “spooky” photo of your child for purchase.

Bob Zany
October 29, 2011
What is the ol’ saying, “Laughter is good for the soul”? Bristol is about to receive a great dose of soul medicine. Zany’s voice is almost as familiar as his face thanks to his weekly skewering of current events on the virally popular Zany Report, syndicated in over 100 markets on the Bob and Tom Radio Network. “Bob is always good for drive time laughs but I understand it is nothing like his live show,” stated Darlene Cole, Venues Manager for the city. “He is always loaded with original material and has perfect comedic timing,” Cole continued. Zany will be joined by special guest Patti Vasquez. Vasquez has performed in HBO’s Comedy Festival, the Chicago Comedy Festival and Marshall’s Women in Comedy Festival. She is a regular guest on the Bob and Tom Radio Network as well. Tickets are on sale now at the Paramount Box Office, Viking Hall Box Office, or at www.vikinghall.com and on-line at www.etix.com.

Tracking Bristol Va.-Tenn. History — Written and Illustrated by Joyce A. Kistner

October 25, 2011
Do you know a young Bristol history buff, if so this book is for them! A forty page history book composed of basic facts about the early founding of Bristol beginning with the Cherokee Indians and pioneers, the second part of the book is about the coming of the train to Goodson-Bristol in 1856. Our city was the "Key to the South" because the rails opened the path to New Orleans, Louisiana, Frankfort, Kentucky and Memphis, Tennessee just to name a few. Twenty eight original acrylic paintings emphasize different areas of our city in the book. Games are located in the back of the book to further review, in a fun way, what facts have been presented. Vocabulary words are present to explain new or less familiar words. The book can be found downtown at CJ & Co. Restaurant and The Bristol Chamber of Commerce. Books are only $12, so get them before they are gone. For more information contact Joyce Kistner at 276-669-2448.
