July 20, 2011
Believe in Bristol would like to publicly acknowledge Wachovia – A Wells Fargo Company for their generous contribution of $5,000 to Bristol’s Main Street Program. The “Main Street Approach to Downtown Revitalization” is a comprehensive revitalization plan advocating a return to community self-reliance, local empowerment and the rebuilding of traditional business districts based on unique assets such as distinctive architecture, a pedestrian-friendly environment and local ownership. In other words, the Main Street program believes in community-driven, common sense solutions to make downtown safe, appealing and vibrant, where folks want to shop, live and make memories.

Believe in Bristol is a non-profit organization, composed of dedicated citizens, business owners, and other friends of Bristol who recognize the role a vital downtown plays in preserving and furthering our communities identity, spirit, and economy. We could not continue the program without local business and community support. Wachovia – A Wells Fargo Company has committed to making Bristol “A Good Place to Live” and we applaud and appreciate their continued support.

“Wachovia/Wells Fargo has a strong focus on supporting economic development. Our vision is for every community where we do business to be a vibrant, safe, economically thriving place for people to live, work and play. We are pleased to continue our investment in Bristol’s economic development efforts,” said Scott Peak, Bristol Market President for Wachovia, A Wells Fargo Company.
“Believe in Bristol is honored to have Wachovia/Wells Fargo as a partner in our efforts to revitalize and spur economic development in Historic Downtown Bristol VA/TN. We are committed to making downtown Bristol a vibrant and thriving community. Thank you Wachovia/Wells Fargo, because of your support and partnership we are able to make Downtown Bristol a better place!” said Sarah Hull, President of Believe in Bristol and downtown business owner of Serendipity.

2011 Wachovia Rockin' Stroll Contest

2010 Best in Show Winner: Grand Antiques
July 20, 2011
The Wachovia Rockin' Stroll Window Decorating Contest returns to BIB's Arts & Entertainment District with a Grand Prize package that includes free Social Media Strategy counseling with Carpe Diem Management, free advertising space from The Loafer, and $300 in cash! A&E District businesses that participate will be listed as an attraction at Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion, The Rockin' Stroll self-guided walking tour.

The contest and tour were designed by BRRR to not only make Downtown festive for the Reunion, but to draw attention to businesses that do not host stages at the event. Last year a dozen businesses took advantage of the more than 45,000 visitors on State Street by decorating their windows in a music theme. Benefits are also gained prior to the festival with photographs and links on bristolrhythm.com and e-blasts about participating businesses.

There is no fee to enter!

The prizes for Rockin' Stroll winners are also designed to help increase business for Downtown merchants. This year the Best In Show prize winner will work with BRRR's Social Media Strategist at Carpe Diem Management on the best way to maximize their free online resources such as Facebook and Twitter.

Carpe Diem Management will craft a short term social media strategy based on in-depth conversations, initial idea sharing and questions with the nonprofit or small business. All discussions will occur by telephone, Skype or by email. Once all information has been gathered, Carpe Diem Management will provide a full written report, complete with timelines, suggestions, and recommendations for the winner to implement. The strategy recommendations will be based on the timelines and projects discussed during discovery. All social media strategies are confidential and proprietary to the business. Not only do you receive a written report, but also a password protected customized instructional video that will walk you through the strategy recommendations.

$200 cash will go to businesses voted "Most Creative" and "Most Festival Spirit".

BRRR has extended the deadline for participation to August 1st.

The rules are simple: businesses must be located within the Arts & Entertainment District of Downtown Bristol, TN/VA. Businesses must decorate their window in a music theme. Windows must be visible for night-time viewing. Windows must be ready for judging by Monday, August 15th and stay up through September 18th.

Winners will be announced at Border Bash on August 19th.

Contact Charlene Baker at BRRR if you wish to take part in the Rockin' Stroll:
marketing@bristolrhythm.com or call 423-573-4898. If you would like to decorate your window but do not wish to be judged, please let us know so you can be included in the festival guide as part of the attraction.

The 2011 Rockin' Stroll is sponsored by Wachovia, Carpe Diem Management, The Loafer & Art in Public Places.

Bristol Youth Leadership (BYL) is currently accepting applications for Community Service Projects for the 2011-2012 program.

July 20, 2011
Bristol Youth Leadership is a leadership training program for area high school sophomores and juniors. In addition to the monthly class sessions, class participants are required to complete a community project to learn more about Bristol and contribute to the community. Each project team will consist of approximately seven students and will begin in October with completion in March 2012. Ideally, service projects will conclude with tangible results that can be presented to a panel. Keep in mind that participants are high school sophomores and juniors and will only have seven months to work on the project. In addition, due to the age of team members, you must be willing to meet with the team over the course of the project. In order for your organization, as well as the team members to receive benefits from the service learning project, it is essential to provide some guidance along the way.
