Since organizing in1990, Greater Vision has been inspiring audiences with their rich vocal blend and their effective ability to communicate the message of the gospel. Over the years, Greater Vision has established a firm place at the pinnacle of Christian music, and has become the most awarded trio in the history of Gospel music.

Celebrate Bristol Announces 2011 Schedule

Non-profit organization Celebrate Bristol is proud to announce the upcoming schedule for Bristol’s annual Star-Spangled Weekend. Each year the organization partners with local organizations for a slate of family friendly events to celebrate America’s Independence. This year’s event is scheduled for June 30 – July 2 and will include a traditional schedule and also introducing several new fun activities. Star-Spangled weekend occurs each July 4 weekend and provides free parade entry, food and music to all those in attendance due to the strong support of local sponsors. The featured musician’s for 2011 will be P.F. Flyers from Kingsport Tennessee, preceded by the ever-popular Bristol Virginia Senior Showchoir. While in Cumberland Square Park you can enjoy hot dogs, chips and water, great music, book-signings by local authors and children’s inflatables.

Music & Movies in the Park returns to local residents for a sixth consecutive year!

“Music & Movies in the Park are great family events. June 30 and every Thursday in July, local bands play at 6:30PM in Cumberland Square Park (Downtown Bristol, VA). Following the bands, we enjoy a family-friendly movie under the stars,” says Gail Childress, Director of Community Outreach for BVU. “These events are just one way that BVU is giving back to this great community.” Movies have been filtered for all ages and will be projected on a large-scale inflatable screen at dusk. Full Moon Jams Concert Series

Don't forget — For the 15th year the City of Bristol Tennessee will be hosting the free concert series "Full Moon Jam" on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Downtown Center (Country Music Mural), 810 State Street. Performances begin at 7 p.m. and continue until 9 or 9:30 p.m. This year more than 30 different bands will play to crowds of 450 to 750 nightly. Bring a lawn chair or come early to grab one of the 350 chairs provided on-site. Refreshments are sold in the concessions area for a nominal fee, Clean, well-stocked restrooms also available. You are asked not to park in the bank drive-through area adjacent to the venue and please do not to bring skateboards or bicycles into the venue. Parking is available on Shelby Street in the Municipal parking lot or on State Street in designated parking spaces. Call for Parade Entries for Star-Spangled Weekend

Plans are being finalized for Bristol's annual Independence weekend celebration in downtown Bristol, which will include a concert and food at Cumberland Square Park, a motorcycle Poker Run, the AACA Antique Car Show and other new events. The Bristol Host Lion’s Club will host the first annual Rubber Duck Race, which will be held following the parade in Beaver Creek. The annual parade will begin on Morrison Blvd at 10:00am and follow the traditional route down State Street to end at Lee Street at the park. Line-up will begin at 8:00am on Morrison Blvd.

Believe in Bristol, Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion and The Birthplace of Country Music Alliance are happy to announce that The Harlow Experience and The Broadcast will be playing the fifth Border Bash summer concert of the year on Friday, July 1, 2011. This Bash will be in conjunction with Celebrate Bristol’s Independence Weekend Celebration! The evening’s events will start with children’s activities, crafters, and concessions at 6:00 PM, LIVE music begins at 7:00 PM with The Harlow Experience, followed by The Broadcast starting at approximately 8:30PM. Remember that Border Bash is free to the public! We look forward to seeing you on State Street!!!

Mayor Feierabend Elected to Tennessee Municipal League Board of Directors

Margaret Feierabend, Bristol Tennessee Mayor, was elected to the board of directors of the Tennessee Municipal League (TML) during the League’s annual conference recently held in Murfreesboro. Feierabend was elected as one of eight district directors to represent her section of the state. She was nominated and elected during a district caucus of TML members from her region of Tennessee. As a member of the TML board of directors, Feierabend will propose and help determine legislation that municipalities need passed into law and will establish policy priorities for the League. She will serve a two-year term. TML is a non-profit organization founded by cities and towns for mutual assistance and improvement. Representing 99 percent of Tennessee’s municipal citizens, the organization advocates for needed legislative action by the General Assembly, represents municipal interests before state department and agencies, and working through the National League of Cities in Washington, seeks to influence federal legislation and policies affecting municipal governments.

The Bristol Public Library invites local and regional artists and groups to apply to exhibit their artwork in the Virgie R. Fleenor Art Gallery in 2012.

Each month artwork is displayed by a different artist or group for the community to view. We are encouraging local and regional artists and groups to apply. These exhibitions provide an opportunity for artists to display their work for public viewing in a variety of media and styles and to further the Bristol Public Library’s mission of “Expanding Minds, Building Community.”
