Let's Celebrate BRISTOL!

Bristol's Star Spangled Weekend
July 01 — 03, 2010
The approach of July reminds us of outdoor events and Independence celebrations around the region. This year the organization Celebrate Bristol has scheduled Bristol’s annual Star-Spangled Weekend, which will include an array of family oriented activities that will celebrate America’s 234th birthday. The patriotic weekend includes BVU’s annual Movies In the Park on Thursday July 1 and Believe In Bristol’s, Rhythm & Roots Reunion and BCMA's summer concertseries, Border Bash . . . Because It’s Great on State on Friday July 2. Border Bash will include children’s activities at 6pm and music of The Difubulators and Michelle Malone, beginning at 8:30pm. For more information click the link below!

The Saturday July 3 events begin with the annual Independence Parade at 10am on State Street in downtown Bristol. Line-up begins at 8am on Morrison Blvd, in front of the Bristol Herald Courier. Following the parade, at about 11:30, everyone is invited to Cumberland Square Park to enjoy Hot Dogs, Chips and Pizza provided by the business community, children’s inflatables, books signings and beach music featuring KIDS OUR AGE and the popular Bristol Virginia Senior Show Choir.

Back by popular demand will be the Appalachian Region AACA sanctioned antique car show. According to John Rice, this year’s AACA coordinator, “this will be even bigger and better than last years, swelling to around 200 cars”. The show will be in the Tri-Summitt and Bristol Municipal parking lots, across from the Bristol Train Station. A new addition for the 2010 celebration will be Bristol Children’s Top Dog Contest, to be held at Anderson Park. Sharon Myers is the coordinator and BB’s Barkery & Boutique at Fandango’s is the co-sponsor of this year’s event. Registration begins at 1pm with the contest at 2pm.

Oh, the day’s not over. Head on out to Boyce Cox Field for Bristol Baseball during Celebrate Bristol Night. The Bristol White Sox will play Greeneville to a packed house beginning at 7pm, followed by the annual fireworks presentation by Pepsi. Celebrate Bristol is expecting packed crowds to this year’s ballgame, which follows the largest attendance ever at the ballpark last July, with over 3,000 fans attending. There’s nothing more American than baseball, hot dogs, a patriotic parade, antique cars, fireworks, and Bristol has it all for this year’s Star-Spangled Weekend.

We thank our many sponsors for their support each year. Our Silver & Gold Sponsors are the Cities of Bristol Virginia & Tennessee, Bristol Virginia Utilities, Bristol Tennessee Essential Services, Shearer’s (formerly Snack Alliance), Bristol Supply & Equipment Company, Atmos Energy, Bristol Regional Medical Center, Strongwell, Food City and Pepsi.
