Theatre Bristol presents "Grease"

June 02, 2010
The fabulous rockin’ and rollin’ fifties will roar into Bristol in an explosion of singing and dancing when Theatre Bristol’s spectacular production of Grease opens on the stage of Theatre Bristol’s ARTspace on June 4th, 2010 at 8:00 p.m. Many baby-boomers will vividly recall the teenage lifestyle of this zany era, when the stage is filled with pedal pushers and rock-crazed, love-tortured, jiving and strolling high school youngsters. With explosive spontaneity, Grease celebrates the look and sound of the 50’s with dynamic rock n’ roll music and dancing. While hip Danny Zuko and wholesome Sandy Dumbrowski resolve the problems of their mutual attraction for each other, the gang sings and dances its way through such nostalgic scenes as the pajama party, the prom, the drive-in and, of course, the burger palace. Grease is the final production of Theatre Bristol’s 44th Anniversary Season.

Theatre Bristol’s production of Grease will be presented for three weekends and opens Friday, June 4th at 8:00 p.m. at Theatre Bristol’s ARTspace. Additional performances of Grease are scheduled for June 5, 11, 12, 18 & 19 at 8:00 p.m. and June 13 & 20 at 2:30 p.m. Tickets for these performances are $15 for adults, $12 for students and seniors and $8 for children under age 12. For more information or to make reservations to Grease, call Theatre Bristol at (423) 968-4977.

Coming up at The Paramount — The Dave Rawlings Machine

June 02, 2010
Acony Records is proud to announce another leg of the Dave Rawlings Machine tour in support of its critically acclaimed debut record, A Friend of a Friend. Released in November 2009, this is the first record by Dave Rawlings, the guitarist, producer, singer and songwriter best known for his work with Gillian Welch and Old Crow Medicine Show. These long time compatriots made the record with Rawlings as did newer friends Benmont Tench from the Heartbreakers, Karl Himmel, and Nate Walcott of Bright Eyes. The touring Machine will include Rawlings and Welch along with members of Old Crow Medicine Show. Dave Rawlings is performing at the Paramount Center for the Arts in beautiful downtown Bristol, TN/VA on Friday, June 11 @ 8:00PM. Tickets are $25 and may be purchased by calling the Paramount Box Office, 423-274-8920 or online at www.etix.com.

Live reviews for the Machine have been stellar across the board. The Chicago Tribune said, “The Dave Rawlings Machine allowed Rawlings and Welch to focus not on the message or the mood, but the sheer joy of the music.” and the Wisconsin State Journal which exclaimed, “The band flew through the set with that elusive combination of abandon and precision…it was hard to miss the big smiles on the faces on stage as the almost overwhelming energy from the crowd poured over them.”
