Grand Opening for Co-op

You are invited to attend the Grand Opening Ceremony of 606 State Street Gallery located in downtown Bristol Tennessee at 606 State Street.

The Gallery is a Co-operative of area artists created to showcase each individual members' artwork including two and three dimensional art, stained glass, sculpture, jewelry and many other pieces of artwork.

Members of the Co-op are from the Tri-Cities area including Johnson City, Kingsport, Bristol, Abingdon, Elizabethton, Saltville, and Telford, as well as Blowing Rock, Lenoir and Boone.

The artists will be present for you to meet and talk with about their work and many will be conducting demonstrations for your information and enjoyment.

Come by for refreshments, music and see all the wonderful artwork.

Learn to Foxtrot — Come on it fun!

Bristol Ballet will feature the Foxtrot April 9th during its monthly dance program, "Ballroom at Bristol Ballet."

The hour-long dance class will begin at 7:30 p.m., and willl be followed by a social dance.

School Board & City Council Forum

April 07, 2010
The Bristol Chamber of Commerce will host a Bristol Virginia School Board & City Council candidates forum on Monday, April 12th at the YWCA of Bristol. The School Board forum will begin at 6:00pm and the City Council forum at 7:30pm. All of the candidates have been invited to attend.

Although the meeting is open to the public, the floor will not be open for questions or debate. Therefore, we are compiling questions from the Bristol Chamber of Commerce membership and regional media. If you would like to submit any questions, please email your question to tramsey@bristolchamber.org or fax to 423-989-4867. Questions are due by Thursday, April 8 at noon.

Please note that the questions may or may not be used based on the discretion of the facilitator.

Twin City Photo Club Announces Bristol Sign Contest

In conjunction with the Bristol Slogan Sign Centennial, the Twin City Photo Club of Bristol has announced a one time photograph contest. This photo competition only has one subject: ALL IMAGES MUST BE OF THE BRISTOL SIGN. The competition is open to amateur, professional, youth and young adult. This competition and gallery show will be the weekend of April 30, which will be day commemorating the sign’s anniversary.

For details, go to the club’s website www.twincityphotoclub.com. Under Photo Contest you may download the rules and entry form. There will be no printed forms. The entry fee will be $3.00 per print for youth and young adult, $5.00 per print for amateur, and $8.00 per print for professional. Judging will be on Thursday April 28 and the exhibit will be displayed through Saturday May 1. The judging and exhibit will be held at the Bristol Train Station. The Twin City Photo Club is a group open to anyone who enjoys any aspect of photography. The club is comprised of all skill levels and interests with the goal of sharing knowledge and experiences. They just celebrated their second year and have grown to a group of nearly 30 members. They would welcome anyone to join-in and experience the fun and fellowship. They meet the first Tuesday of each month at the Bristol Chamber of Commerce at 7:00 PM.

You may visit the new Facebook page, BRISTOL TN/VA SIGN 100th ANNIVERSARY, for details and discussion on the history and anniversary of the historic Bristol Slogan Sign. The anniversary celebration will be held on Friday April 30. Events will include special guests, John Rose, the official artist for King Feature’s Snuffy Smith, one of the longest running cartoons in history, and Tod Swormstedt, director of the American Sign Museum in Cincinnati Ohio. A special anniversary cake will be prepared by Chef Richards of the Southeast Culinary School. There will be activities throughout the day, culminating with a celebration in front of the Bristol Sign prior to dusk and concluding with an exceptional musical variety show at the Paramount Center. Tickets for the Paramount show entitled THE TIMES OF OUR SIGN will be made available the first of April.
