Riders in the Sky Workshop
March 27, 2010For 30 years, Riders in the Sky have been keepers of the flame passed on by the Sons of the Pioneers, Gene Autry, and Roy Rogers. The hour-long workshop is part lecture, part audiovisual, with musical clips illuminating the cultural history of the "singing cowboy," from the genre's popularity in the 1930s, to its decline in the 1950s, to its renaissance in the 1980s.
The concert will demonstrate why Riders in the Sky have become modern-day icons who have branded the genre with their wacky humor, Western wit, and yodeling. Did you know: Riders in the Sky won two Grammy Awards for Best Musical Albums for Children (in 2001 for "Woody's Round Up" from Toy Story 2, and two years later for "Monsters Inc. — Scream Factory Favorites," the companion CD to Pixar's award-winning movie).
