R.A.D. (Rape Agression Defense) Course at YWCA

May 06, 2013

YWCA Bristol, in partnership with The Crisis Center Inc. and the Bristol Tennessee Police Department, will host a free R.A.D. (Rape Aggression Defense) self defense course for ladies 13 and older at the YWCA, 106 State Street. The course format features four sessions that will be held on Tuesday, May 14, 21, 28 and June 4 from 6 — 9 p.m. Participants should commit for all four sessions; space is limited so reserve your spot today. To reserve your spot, call the YWCA at 423.968.9444.

R.A.D. Systems for Self Defense provide a holistic approach to self defense education through lecture, discussion and physical resistive strategies. Led by certified R.A.D. instructors, participants will be taught to practice safety habits and to recognize the warning signs of a potential attack. The fourth session will allow participants to practice self defense strategies during a simulated attack performed by a certified R.A.D. aggressor.

“This intensive training can prepare women for the possibility of an assault and teach them the skills of safety awareness and defensive combat to fend off an attack. It's also a great exercise routine!” said Della McGuire, volunteer coordinator-outreach advocate for The Crisis Center.
