Keep Bristol Beautiful Clothing Drive is a Success

June 11, 2012

A clothing drive conducted by Keep Bristol Beautiful during the Great American Cleanup has resulted in 4023 pounds of clothing and donations collected, benefitting the Bristol Salvation Army and the Haven of Rest. The business that brought in the most donations was Bristol Metals with 706 pounds. The individual who donated the most was Betty James with 214 pounds. According to Kathy Lowdermilk, Keep Bristol Beautiful Coordinator, money raised by the organizations goes back into the local community. “You’re not only recycling old clothes, you’re helping those in the community who may need assistance,” Lowdermilk said.

The Great American Cleanup is a nationwide event held annually March 1 – May 31 to clean up and spruce up communities. Local Sponsors of the 2012 Great American Cleanup were Alpha Natural Resources, BVU Authority, Bristol Chamber of Commerce, Bristol Herald Courier, Bristol Motor Speedway, Bristol Tennessee Essential Services, Coca-Cola Bottling Company, Eastman Credit Union, Hill and Dale Garden Club, JA Street and Associates, Strongwell, Shearer’s Food, TVA, Wise Recycling, and Waste Management of Tri-Cities.
