Glasgow Theatre Company presents Next to Normal

June 11, 2012

Glasgow Theatre Company is proud to present the regional premiere of the groundbreaking and award-winning musical Next to Normal on June 15th and 16th at 8 pm and June 17th at 3 pm at the Paramount Center for the Arts in Bristol, TN. Tickets are available now, and may be purchased by calling the Paramount Box Office at 423.247.8920 or via their website at www.theparamountcenter.com.

Glasgow Theatre Company is proud to serve the Tri-Cities area as a non-profit theatre organization. Established in 2010 with the goal of being “actor-friendly,” GTC works hard to maintain its sense of artistic collaboration while producing some of theatre’s newer works, as well as some old favorites. The main goal of GTC is to provide an atmosphere of creativity as well as the means to allow people with busy schedules the opportunity to participate in community theatre.

Featuring a compelling and surging pop rock score, Next to Normal shatters through the façade of a suburban family dealing with the direct and indirect effects of mental illness. Winner of 3 Tony Awards and the 2010 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, this intense, emotional and ultimately hopeful musical makes a direct grab for the heart with its story of a family coming to terms with its past and bravely facing its future. Ben Brantley of the New York Times calls Next to Normal “a brave, breathtaking musical. A work of muscular grace and power. It is something much more than a feel-good musical; it is a feel-everything musical.” And Peter Marks of The Washington Post calls it “a moving, blisteringly honest, and inordinately powerful new musical. It is stocked with beautiful songs that get to the heart of the story – and simply get to the heart. Next to Normal strikes a blow for the American musical’s future each night.”

Next to Normal’s impressive cast includes Joy Nagy, Chris Broadhead, Hannah Miller, Luke Bechtel, Jon Luttrell, and Hunter Graybeal. Chris Broadhead and Chris Bowen collaborate as directors of the show, with musical direction by Dishon Smith and Emily Broadhead. This production is being produced through special arrangement with Music Theatre International.
