Dr. Z.L. Feng and his wife, Mei Shu, are internationally known watercolorists and they will be exhibiting their artwork in the Bristol Public Library’s Virgie R. Fleenor Art Gallery the month of August. Dr. Feng grew up in Shanghai, China and since the age of seven, he has never stopped experimenting with different art mediums. “With watercolor you cannot cover your mistakes, so you must know what you are doing,” he says. Dr. Feng has earned over 300 regional, state, national and international awards. He a member of many national art and watercolor societies and has been featured in numerous art magazines. He is now a Professor of Art at Radford University in Radford, VA and uses the beautiful landscapes of the New River Valley as inspiration for his paintings.

Mei Shu also grew up in Shanghai, China and currently lives with her husband in Radford, VA. She has been recognized for many art awards throughout the country. Mei Shu draws her inspiration from village scenes in her homeland to Virginia’s mountains, lakes and rivers. She is an artist who is known for her watercolor paintings of foliage, landscape and oriental village scenes. Mei Shu believes painting with watercolor helps her to relax. To try something new, she began using oil paints, but watercolor is still her medium of many of her works.

Along with Dr. Z.L. Feng and his wife are many of his talented art students, past and present, from Radford University in Radford, VA who will also exhibit in the Virgie R. Fleenor Art Gallery.
