Citizens Municipal Academy Application Deadline Approaching

December 12, 2011

The holidays are fast approaching, so much to do and so many things to remember, so go ahead and get a head start on the 4th Annual Citizens Municipal Academy application. The deadline for applications is January 9, 2012, which seems like a long time out, however it is just a few short weeks away.

The program is designed to educate the public on how your local government works, how a budget is developed, what the role of city council is, how boards and commissions play a role in city decisions and other basic functions of city services. Academy members meet with management from each area of city operations. They visit many of the city’s properties, and have an opportunity to ask questions and get answers to their questions.
The academy is set in a relaxed atmosphere, with food and drink offered at each session. There is no charge to attend. At the end of the 7-week course, members will receive a certificate of completion presented at a City Council meeting.

For more information on the Citizens Municipal Academy please go to the city’s website at: www.bristoltn.org, click the “Home” tab and scroll down to the Academy button. There you will find a detailed description of the Academy, timelines, class topics and an application. The application may be completed online and submitted or printed out and mailed to the city or faxed to 423-764-3299. Applications are also available in the City Manager’s office at City Hall.

Only 15 applicants will be accepted to the Academy due to space constraints.
