City of Bristol goes mobile with official My Bristol TN app

July 20, 2016

The City of Bristol Tennessee is pleased to announce the launch of a new communication tool for the community and visitors as well. My Bristol TN is the City’s new mobile app. It provides a link from a mobile device to a number of the City’s website’s most popular menu items.

Users will be able to receive City Alerts when there are road or street closings, event or meeting cancellations, and other notifications. The public will also be able to see all city press releases, job openings, transit schedules, and City employee contacts. There are also modules that feature a calendar of events, agendas and minutes of City boards and City Council meetings. Also, all the City’s social media platforms will be hosted in one place for viewing.

“We are a mobile nation. There has, as we all know, been a huge increase in the use of mobile devices. We have the ability to track where access to our city’s website is coming from, whether it is mobile or desktop. In that data we found that 42% of our contact is being made via mobile devices,” said Terrie Talbert, Director of Community Relations. “It has long been the goal of the City to be transparent. We want to insure that information is available to anyone and from every source possible. The City is constantly looking to develop and advance our communication tools. We want to put open government in the palm of your hand.”

New modules will be added as needed or requested. “The City currently utilizes all social media platforms, the city website and BTN-TV Channel 16 and 192 to communicate with the public on a daily basis. The app is just one more tool in the toolbox that allows for public ease and total accessibility to local government,” said Bill Sorah, City Manager. “We will be constantly updating the app in order to keep new program or service information within reach of the community.”

Free downloads will be available beginning Wednesday, July 13 from the Apple or Google Play stores.
