Street Closure Request-Star Spangled Saturday Parade/Community Picnic-June 30, 2012

Request from the Fraternal Order of Veterans Civic Council of Bristol to close certain streets in order to have parade celebrating the July 4th holiday. The parade is scheduled for Saturday, June 30, 2012 from 10:00 AM to approximately 12:00 PM. It will be necessary to close Bob Morrison Boulevard at 7:30 AM to permit staging.

Properly executed insurance documents naming the City of Bristol Virginia as Certificate Holder and additional insured and Hold Harmless Indemnification Agreement are on file.

The parade route is as follows:
-Staging on Bob Morrison Boulevard between West State Street and Fairmount Avenue
-East on West State Street from Bob Morrison Boulevard to Lee Street
-North on Lee Street to Cumberland Street
-West on westbound Cumberland Street to Moore Street to disband
-North on Lee Street to Cumberland Square parking for community picnic

In order for the parade to utilize this route, the following streets require closure:
Northbound Bob Morrison Boulevard 7:30 am for staging
Euclid Avenue to West State Street
Southbound Bob Morrison Boulevard 7:30 am for staging
Euclid Avenue to West State Street
West State Street and State Street 10:00 am
Bob Morrison Boulevard to Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard
Lee Street
State Street to Cumberland Street
Cumberland Street disbanding only
Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard to Piedmont Avenue
Moore Street
Cumberland Street to Scott Street

All intersecting side streets will be controlled with traffic control devices or Police personnel. Streets will be closed as the parade advances and opened after the parade passes and clean up is completed.

At the conclusion of the parade, Bristol Virginia Utilities will host a free to the public, City Wide Community Picnic in Cumberland Square Park including the paved parking lot on the Moore Street side of the Park.

For the City Wide Community Picnic, I also request the closure of Lee Street from Cumberland Street to the north side of Beaver Creek and the parking lot west of Cumberland Square Park.
The duration of the Lee Street Closure will be from 9:00 am until 2:00 pm and the parking lot closure will be from approximately 6:30 am until 3:00 pm to allow for set up, takedown and cleanup.

As with all such events, access for Bristol Virginia Fire Department and other emergency services shall be maintained at all times.

Due to parade being on Saturday, June 30, the Traffic Division of the Public Works Department will deliver traffic control devices (except cones and lane separators) to appropriate locations during the regular workday on Friday, June 29. At the appropriate times, Public Works and Police personnel will set up and dismantle all closures.

Any traffic control devices in the downtown area will be picked up by the Public Works Department immediately after the parade and clean up.
