Bristol Public Library names new Executive Director

The Board of Trustees of the Bristol Public Library today named Amy Kimani as the new Executive Director for the Library. Ms. Kimani will join the BPL staff on August 3, 2015.

Ms. Kimani currently serves as Assistant Director of the Holston River Regional Library where she works with twenty-five libraries in ten counties in Northeast Tennessee. She is very active on the state-wide committee for Tennessee R. E. A. D. S. (Regional E-Book and Audiobook Downloading System). She also trains library staffs and patrons on the use of the R. E. A. D. S. system. She selects the Young Adult fiction for Tennessee R. E. A. D. S. and created and maintains the Tennessee R. E. A. D. S. Facebook page.

Ms. Kimani is a former director of the Corry Public Library in Pennsylvania, her home state. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Grove City College and a Master of Library Science degree from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.

She and her husband Alex have been married for eight years and are the parents of daughter Rhegan, age seven, and son Sean, age two. They reside in Kingsport, Tennessee.

Having always had a passion for books and libraries Ms. Kimani is looking forward to sharing those passions with Bristol. “I am so excited to be a part of the Bristol Public Library. I’m looking forward to working with everyone and I cannot wait to get started. I love the Bristol area and am eager to be a part of this wonderful community.”
