Calling All Artists! Come Join in Artists' Power Hour and an Art Swap as part of the 3rd Annual State of the Arts Weekend in Historic Downtown Bristol

May 30, 2013

Calling all artists! We want YOU to participate in two exciting art events — Artists' Power Hour art competition and an Art Swap — as part of Believe in Bristol’s State of the Arts Weekend on June 14-16.

On Saturday, June 15, 11 a.m.–12 noon, there will be an Artists' Power Hour art competition at the Farmers' Market in Historic Downtown Bristol. Artists will have one hour to start and finish their art project in front of the Farmers' Market audience. Artists should bring their own supplies, table or easel, along with a tip jar. The artist with the most tips at the end of the hour is the winner! The winning artist will be featured on the A&E section of the Believe in Bristol website as well as the A&E District Facebook page, and also be displayed in one of the galleries in Downtown Bristol for one month. This competition is open to all varieties of artisans: painters, sculptors, jewelry makers, crafters, collage enthusiasts, woodcarvers — we want you all!

“What a unique and fun experience, to either participate or watch as the synergy of local artists is put to the test!” says Bethany Wilson, owner of blowfish emporium. “Artists’ Power Hour is an opportunity for artists of all kinds to showcase their work in a one-hour competition so please come out and support this fun part of State of the Arts Weekend.”

On Sunday, June 16, 1:00 p.m.–4:00 p.m., Arts Alliance Mountain Empire is sponsoring an Art Swap Event at the Downtown Center on State Street in Historic Downtown Bristol. Visual artists can swap paintings, photographs, sculptures and unneeded supplies. But don’t stop there: the swap is also for the whole range of the arts, so it could include fiber arts, ceramics, pottery, jewelry and their related supplies. It can also include sheet music, instruments, dance clothes and shoes, literature and even an offer to trade lessons in piano, dance, voice, painting, etc. Be creative in what you offer to trade!

We would like you to register to participate, but there will be no registration charge. You will just need to bring your own table and chairs, and a tent if you wish. The swap will also be open to the public, and you may sell any items to the other artists or to the public. And don’t be afraid to barter! There will also be a “free table” where you may put things you would be happy for others to just enjoy. Anything left at the end of the day will be donated to a charity. Set-up time will be on June 16 from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m., and clean-up/pack-up from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Further details will be available when you register.

"The Art Swap event provides a wonderful venue for artists of every kind to connect, network, share, and showcase their individual talents to one another and to the general public," says Susan Long of Arts Alliance Mountain Empire. "It's a very special opportunity for individual artists to come together and creatively swap and sell their art forms."
